Women's and nonbinary tournaments have several uses within the game. First, they provide a networking opportunity for building the community of non-men fighters. They allow newer players, or those new to tournaments, a friendly environment to practice competing and perhaps build confidence for larger open tournaments. They allow women and nonbinary players to compete among each other, in line with most mainstream sports up to the Olympics.
A note on best practices: Recent non-men's tournaments have followed several practices to be successful.
- Inclusive: All interested women, nonbinary and female-identifying players are welcome to participate if they are interested in doing so.
- Optional: Eligible players should not be expected to enter the tournament nor excluded from existing open tournaments. In particular, the tournament should be scheduled at times that do not conflict with an open tournament so that eligible players may fight in both.
- Respectful: In the past, some women's and nonbinary tournaments allowed men to enter dressed in drag, encouraged cat-calling from spectators, and generally treated the event as a joke. Modern events avoid these practices and expect respectful behavior from both participants and spectators.
- Professional: As in any tournament, strong reeving, good recordkeeping and clear expectations help players succeed.
Women's tournaments and awards: The existing Warrior award ladder is designed to recognize battlefield prowess and success in open tournaments. The place of gender restricted tournaments within this framework remains the subject of disagreement. Case-by-case decisions about awards are currently settled between the relevant player, the tournament runners, and the monarchy.
Tournament results: The table below recognizes winners of women's and nonbinary tournaments by tracking results in a central location across the game.
