Híril Fallaryn of Northern Fields, the Empire of Rivermoor

“My hair is moving like a millipede!”

“I was demonstrating how a backstab works! If I was trying I would have killed you a minute ago.” –Upon being caught by Genet.

“Sorry! I did try to be noisy.” –One of the many times Fallaryn accidentally snuck up on and startled someone.

“Fallaryn is the most dangerous person in Wildgard.”Vija in a light-hearted Wildgard conversation. [Alternate source]

“As far as elves go, Fal fails almost every single requirement. Except the whole fucking terrifying craftiness/backstabbiness.”Thistle in 2015

Phonetics & Translations

Being a bit of a Tolkien fan, the persona name and honorifics are all in Elvish.

While there is the preference for Híril Fallaryn Celefúliel as an honorific, Lady Fallaryn or just Fallaryn is fine.

Biography

Fallaryn [fɑll-əʀɪn] always had a deep interest for all things medieval and fantasy. If the two went together, even better. In particular, her love for archery began early – when she first saw Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as a toddler. This love for archery had its merits, as whenever she went to an archery range as a child she proved to have excellent aim without guidance.

Over the years Fallaryn would look up LARP groups and note how far away they all were. She knew nobody who shared her passion, and so she felt that she was missing out on something great. In late spring 2012 Fallaryn began to notice a former classmate of hers – Mahogany – being tagged in some fascinating pictures on Facebook. He had joined a LARP group. At first Fallaryn resisted temptation, reasoning that now was not the time.

The pictures continued to show up on Fallaryn’s Facebook feed.

In late October 2012 Fallaryn had had enough, and sent a message to Mahogany inquiring about the group. On November 4, Fallaryn showed up at Wildgard for the first time. This proved to be a wise decision: Fallaryn made friends, she found an outlet for her archery bug, and in the process learned that LARPing was healthy for her writing muse. She also started to learn how to sew for the first time in her life.

Fallaryn assisted Wildgard in raiding Land's End in June 2013, dipping her toe in greater Amtgard for the first time. Even after visiting Land's End again a couple months later, the thirst for travel could not be sated. She attended Summer Trials XI in August. In September she petitioned to join Jackal Company, to which she was accepted as a petitioner. She also became Woman-at-Arms to then-Lady Silvia Ellibayne. In October she attended Curse of the Great Pumpkin.

During Wildgard's first Althing in late October, Fallaryn was voted as the park's first Guildmaster of Archers.

In January 2014 Fallaryn was again voted for the Guildmaster of Archers position, as well as being elected as Wildgard's Regent. In August she completed her reign as Regent and retained the position of Guildmaster of Archers. At Summer Trials XII she was elevated from a Prospect of Jackal Company to a full Jackal, then elected to the position of Sergeant alongside Mulds in the second regiment. She may or may not have been involved in the appearance of garlic decor at Matosai's home. The garlic has been confirmed to still be hanging out at his residence as of December 2023.

During this time Fallaryn submitted her marinated chicken dish at an A&S event, in which NFTY enjoyed and a conversation ensued. From that day forward the name of the dish is NFTY Chicken and has since evolved to other dishes such as NFTY Stir Fry.

Following attendance of Curse of the Great Pumpkin, active participation in the game came to a halt when Fallaryn was injured in a car accident on October 26, 2014. She sustained severe whiplash and a concussion, requiring four months of rest and physiotherapy. During this time of rest she innovated her own modular arrowhead tech. She also worked on restoring her reading skill, as the concussion had caused difficulties.

Fallaryn began easing back into fighting as of April 18, 2015, when she visited Land's End again. She attended MAME in May, followed by being elected as Wildgard's Prime Minister, and received the noble title of Lady at the end of the month.

Up until the dissolution of class Guildmasters at the park level in September 2015 she had maintained the position of Guildmaster of Archers, and is occasionally referred to as Wildgard's dedicated arrow reeve, for she is determined to maintain high standards for arrows to ensure safety.

At The Gathering of the Clans XXXIII Fallaryn met several players from greater Amtgard, gaining some understanding of the culture as a whole. She took great interest in the Amtgard Leadership University, being one of the few to attend all eight classes. Notes were taken in each class to pass on the knowledge in written format to those who were unable to attend, which is kept recorded in a Google Docs file. On the field her archery skill was complimented by Sir Monkey. Following a deep talk about archery late into the night, a player whom Fallaryn did not catch the name of gifted her a PVC bow.

On August 8, at Wildgard's A Night in Valhalla themed summer event, Mulds proposed to Fallaryn at the end of court. [1] Following this she attended Curse of the Great Pumpkin. In 2016 she attended Known World War and Curse of the Great Pumpkin.

Fallaryn prefers to play the Archer class, whether it's with her 15lb, 22lb, or 30-ish-lb bow. One of her favourite moments as an Archer in v7.7 was when she shot a Petrify out of the air (the subsequent laughter did result in her death - well worth it, in her opinion). Another memorable play was bouncing an arrow off the ground to ricochet and hit the third leg of a legged shield user. She has dabbled frequently with the Druid class, and frequently relies on what she calls the "Armchair Druid" Summoner build when her body is too riddled with injuries to use melee weapons or bows.

While she does enjoy battlegames, Fallaryn also had a love for Wildgard's quests and storyline. She roleplayed as an ancient elf with a dislike toward coyotes and chairs. Nobody knew whose side the elf was on, for she was prone to assisting all sides with little explanation. Fallaryn has not roleplayed as the elf since the car accident in 2014, as having some amount of retrograde amnesia has made her forget who her character was.

Her activity tapered in 2016 and 2017 as she focused more on mundane life, then increased activity upon joining the Wolffe Pack household. In 2018 she contributed a number of graphics, a stylized pinned post, and more for the park; and attended Battle Beyond the Border. From 2019 the relationship with Mulds ended and she took a break to alleviate burnout, focus on mundane life, and as of 2021 the break was unintentionally extended due to a serious energy-limiting health issue that remains in flux as of 2023.

Heading into 2024 Fallaryn intends to increase attendance and has begun contributing graphics again for Northern Fields. She hopes that her health will improve again as the desire to assist, craft, as well as shoot arrows where the armour or shields don't cover, has persisted in spite of her difficulties with her health.

In the mundane world, prior to her health taking a nosedive, Fallaryn worked as the supervising arborist of the tree health division at her employing tree care company, including formal study and training in Integrated Pest Management. Her eye for detail has made for earlier detection of Dutch elm disease thus slowing its spread, as well as making judgment calls that ultimately saved high-value trees from over-eager municipal chainsaws. Her passion for trees and greenery in general has not waned even while she is unable to work, and both the company manager and coworkers eagerly await her return.

“Listen to the trees.”

“That's enough, spoon ears.”

“A high elf? Heh, pansy.”

“It's difficult to pluck invasive weeds one by one. When they've gone to seed, the best way to deal with them... is to burn them.”

Biography

A sassy elf whose stature and grey strands of hair reflects her age and wisdom. Fallaryn appeared in Wildgard shortly before the first (and late) snow on a November evening, where she met Ursarius. Her motives were always difficult to determine, and it did not help that - as long as the land was not put in danger - she would readily assist all sides. One day she rallied elves. Another she was helping demons. The next, she was associating with angels. Most days she can be spotted approaching Kintu to stroke their ears or clean the burrs out of their tails. Don't pay attention to her dislike and aversion of the entity of Mother Nature, that's clearly an anomaly. (“Pfft, no, she's a pompous twig.”)

Fallaryn lived to the far west of the Wild Lands as a youngling. She tried to be a healer once. There is a particular dislike towards coyotes and chairs, and an uncontrollable fear of the Undead. The Skirits of Wildgard know Fallaryn to be a good ally, tracing back to the war between humans and Kintu a hundred years ago.

Some have learned that millennia ago, a demon wiped out her home, killing everyone and destroying everything she knew and loved. This set her on a destructive path that eventually resulted in the stripping of her magic. The full details of those incidents have yet to be unveiled. Following the demise of the ancient demon known as Balthezar in the spring following the long winter, much of Fallaryn's abilities were restored. It was then that she remembered the location of her childhood home - the place where Wildgard's tavern stood.

The tavern's barkeep, Thoror, learned that Fallaryn was one of the first elven friends of the dwarves... and also one of the first enemies.

Skilled with the bow, Fallaryn is also formidable with druid magic. Weapons frequently seen on her is a bow she refers to as Quessë (Feather), and a shortsword she calls Lumbolassë (Gloom Leaf, or Fern).

Names

There are various uses and power in names. Fallaryn is aware of a number of them and takes care in deciding which name is shared with others. Most will be told of her Kilmessë, while some may be aware of her Epessë by reputation (mostly with dwarves). [The naming conventions here follow the traditions of Tolkien's elves.]

  • Self-name or Kilmessë (a self-assigned public name, when in exile/disguise or for deeds/talents)
    • Fallaryn (Sindarin)
    • Faltaurien (Quenya)
      • Meaning: foam forest
      • A moreso public disguise sort of name in Fallaryn's case, partly to trump magic regarding true names
  • After-name or Epessë (a public nickname or honorific given to an elf at some point in his or her life)
    • Celefúliel (Sindarin)
    • Telpesúriel (Quenya)
    • Silvindr (Old Norse)
    • Zigilbagd (Khuzdul) [given by the dwarves many centuries ago]
      • Meaning: silver wind
  • Father-name or Anessi (often the primary name of an elf and one of their true names, often assigned at or near their birth, until they choose to adopt an epessë given to them to use as their public name, then this name is mostly discontinued)
    • Sadorwen (Sindarin)
    • Sartanís (Quenya)
      • Meaning: steadfast woman
  • Mother-name or Amilessë (an elf's true name assigned by their mother shortly after or within a few years of birth, whom have insight into the child's character and abilities, sometimes prophetic in nature) [has public usage in Middle-earth but is kept private in other universes]
    • [nice try, fae!]
