A Brief History of (Crimson Circle) Time By Orkin

It all began late in the year of the Rooster. A powerful ley line nexus to the north of the Frostlands had for eons been protected by powerful runic magic. Because of the rune stones, the magic of the nexus was undetectable by any except the guardians. No one knows how or why, but the guardians, known as The Crimson Circle, were all executed, and the stones were taken.

Even during this savage time, wandering warriors and barbarians such as Shalashaska, Kurok The Mighty, and Akyo did their best in this largely untamed wilderness to fight back the horrors that attempted to take the power of the nexus as their own. This task turned out to be too great, and the future of the region seemed in question.

Early in the year of the Dog, on the day of the Baronial elections in the Frostlands, Baronet Orkin, who was on that day being re-elected as Baron of the Frostlands, received a messenger bat from his homeland of Tai'ren. Its rather cryptic and nonspecific message directed him to leave the Frostlands and embark on a new journey from which he might never return. He relinquished his position as Baron and appointed Bangor to watch over the Frostlands.

He was far from alone on this journey, however. Brave members of Frosbrew and The Company of the Crescent Moon left with him on that day. Lord Jyotis, Sarmma, Sahari, Leela Nightheart, Morden, and others left to join the battle that was already being waged in the north to reclaim the nexus.

A prompt allegiance was formed, and the shire of Crimson Circle was established. Baronet Orkin acted as Sheriff, and Sahari Sousuke held the position of Regent. The spirits of the former protectors asked these new warriors to take over as guardians of the nexus. The quest to reclaim the stones had begun.

Sometime later in that same year, a call for aid was sent out by Runemaker, a sorcerer skilled in the ancient art of rune-smithing. He sought to rally regional forces to combat Mythika, a powerful sorceress with demonic allegiances who intended to claim the power of the nexus for herself. The Rune Quest was successful in defeating Mythika, but her body was never found, and the stones remained lost.

Early in the year of the Pig, Shalashaska took over as Sheriff of Crimson Circle, and he continues in this capacity to this day. Kayin Thunderfist first assisted him as Regent and now Serrin does. The Circle of Elders acts as a trusted group of advisers to both the Regent and the Sheriff.

The Rune Quest II

Most recently, news of activity resembling the hand of Mythika has been reported to Crimson Circle, and messages to Runemaker have gone unanswered. An expedition to find him and investigate this possible threat is happening in one month. We'll need all the help we can get.
