SWFFL
The Southwest Fantasy Football League was a Fantasy Football League run by Aramithris.
History
Founded in 1990 by Aramithris, the SWFFL was a fun little fantasy football league whose players included many of the Amtgard crowd in El Paso, and ended up including a number of the Claw Legion at the time and a few other friends. In a weird parallel universe kind of way, happenings here were sometimes reflected in what went on in Amtgard at large.
Role in Amtgard History
In particular one incident in the late 90s played a role in tensions between the Burning Lands and the Iron Mountains and may have even played a role in the breakup of the Claw Legion. Killraven, at the time Emperor of the Iron Mountains, noticed that there was no written rule prohibiting him from starting the same player at more than one position. Normally there would be little incentive to do so, but with Kordell Stewart, in his prime as "slash" for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he thought it made sense. By using this method he got a ton of points and beat Aramithris' Warriors team. Aramithris as commisioner immediately ruled this move illegal, a player cannot play two positions at the same time. Killraven said something like fine, you can change it in the future but it is perfectly legal right now, and the argument ended with Killraven quitting the league mid-season. Tensions between the IM and BL seemed to escalate about that time. Coincidence? Who knows?
Sometime after that the thing with Ahira and Nikos and Guy all came to a head with the Claw schism. This was probably a minor incident in the grand scheme of things, but who knows what might have been if not for Kordell Stewart...
Decline
Anyway the league went on as a fun league for some time after that, though with fewer people. Finally in 2004, as part of a withdrawal from Amtgard in general, there was no season, ending a fifteen year run.
