History

The first Throw in the Snow was a war between the Olympus and the now defunct chapter of Fionn. It was originally planned to be a small gathering, much like a raid. However, both chapters began massive recruiting from outside chapters. Players came from chapters all over the Midwest including Querna Tema, Three Rivers, and Frostlands(?). Over 100 people fought in the war. It was the largest impromptu war in the history of Midwest Amtgard, and never finished because it was too dark to fight. No clear winner was established, but circumstances could have placed either side the victor.

Unfortunately, bad relations grew after the war and Olympus and Fionn grew apart. Some could say this untimately resulted in the death of Fionn. A few dedicated members from that park transferred over to Olympus over time, including Dayne, Isabella, Jager, and Wolves. The addition of the new players to Olympus brought a new life to the game and started its quick growth from Shire to Duchy.

Almost every year, Olympus holds Throw in the Snow during the winter to remember that battle and celebrate an important part of the chapter's history.

Stories

Many war stories are heard from folks of Olympus regarding that first event. Here are a few of them:

"We mustered our forces in a small hillock miles from the enemy camp, our numbers were small but our minds had been sharpened to a dagger point, as we began the march to war, more wagons showed, with more wagons behind them; soon Querna Tema's full force was behind us, members of Clan Raion and Free Companies offered us bows and hands of friendship, we knew the day would be ours. Together we rode to Fionn and saw a host assembled before us. As we set to engage, the tiny field was strewn in fighters, magi, and death. It seemed no matter how many we killed more seemed to come out of nowhere, I swore I had killed the same man 8 times that day, yet nowhere was there a healer to be seen opposing us. Through it all I witnessed a terrible sight, a man I had never met before, arrived on the field, in his hands was a polearm, at his side a short sword, he had been blessed by our druids with the best protection they could provide, and he wrought havoc with every step. I watched him kill half of the opposing army that day, always by himself, never was there a blade that could catch him."
