The Minnesota Amtgard May Event

The Minnesota Amtgard May Event, or M.A.M.E., was an event held May 23rd-25th 2014 at McGowan Farm, Mankato, MN. The event is the third in a series of bi-yearly events which started with G.A.M.E. in 2010 and continued with The Sequel in 2012.

The event drew 115 people from over a many parks, across five kingdoms making it the largest Amtgard event to be held in Minnesota as of 2014.

Friday, the 23rd

Friday evening will include:

Setup

Some preparation for the following day, although for most this just means setting up camp.

Bonfire & Bardic

Around a bonfire upon the highlands above beggars row songs were sung, stories were shared, and many a drink was had.

Evening competition: Night Quest

Saturday the 24th

Breakfast

Hundreds of fresh baked doughnuts and assorted other pastries were distributed to fuel the day's activities.

The fourth annual Starmount cinder block invitational

Since it was first held at G.A.M.E. in 2010, the Starmount cinder block invitational has been the competition of choice to start the morning. This year Scytale upset Vahn's 3 year winning streak and took home the glory of being the champion cinderbock chucker.

Treasure retrieval from the sunken temple

Classes: Any, third level maximum
No life count, respawn as per base count

Players had to navigate around obstacles to get to the treasure spots. In the treasure spots players were considered removed from play. Players were only able to enter the treasure spots while holding a treasure retrieval apparatus. Once the treasure was removed from the spot it had to go in the team's retrieval spot. If a treasure retriever was killed, the system goes off to the side from where they passed. Treasure retrievers could not carry any weapons nor block with the retrieval system. Goal was attaind when a team has retrieved a determined amount of treasure.

Lunch

Consisted of fruit and crackers to replenish the vigour of players without weighing them down.

Ring the Boat!

Militia style combat, no armour, teams could have 20 throwing weapons at their disposal, archers were limited to carry three arrows maximum. No life count, respawn happend every 60 seconds.

The boats have engaged and the boarding planks have been laid down! Teams had fight to cross the planks and claim right opposing ship. Victory was determined by the most rings in one hour.

Romans vs. Barbarians 3

Barbarians team composed of Warriors, Assassins and Barbarians.
Romans team was Paladins, Scouts and Monks
Lives were as per normal, respawn as per base count.

The epic battle between right and barbarism continued! The barbarian hordes came by sea to invade Rome. With her vast military might elsewhere the cavalry stood at the defence of Rome. Thus, the cavalrymen asked the Children of Neptune to aid in this best of five scenario.

The battle was vicious and bloody with countless lives sacrificed upon the alter of battle that day. T̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶a̶r̶b̶a̶r̶i̶a̶n̶s̶ ̶w̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶a̶t̶t̶l̶e̶. The Romans were once again victorious, because they are literate unlike the barbarian ravel.

Feast

Was made possible thanks to the hard work of Sir Micah and the Roger's Raiders. The food consisted of large amounts of pulled pork flavoured with red and green enchilada sauce as well as a batch of barbeque sauce made by Miago.

Court

Saw the stepping down of the court of Prince Michael and Regent Raphael and the coronation of Prince Queball and Regent Nfty.

Saturday Sea Shanty

At the main bonfire a sea shanty themed bardic was held.

Sunday the 25th

Folks packed up and went their separate ways. Site closed at noon.
