All that Glitters
Everyone loves treasure! Sadly, Amtgard does not really provide for loot outside of the usual Relic Quest - and let's be honest, when there are a hundred or more players, plus Monsters and Reeves, and only a half-dozen rewards to go around, someone (in fact, almost everyone) goes home empty-handed. No matter how hard you fight, how well you perform, how awesome your role-playing was, the truth is, unless you are one of the lucky few, all your efforts will be for naught but memories.
This is where mock treasure comes in to it's own glory. Now look, honestly, it's nothing more than worthless baubles - fake gold coins, Mardi Gras style bead necklaces, glass-drop jewels and Burger King crowns.
However, to a hard-playing adventurer, even a small piece of booty is better than no loot at all.
When preparing to run a series of nautical or piratical themed games, or should you be preparing a full reign of seaworthy shenanigans, do your populace favor and drop $20 on plastic doubloons and other assorted shiny things and fill up a wooden box or other treasure chest with the plunder.
Then, at the end of every game, dole out a few pieces to everyone involved, including those playing Monsters and even those reeving or just helping out. Your populace will now have some lasting loot to remember your games by - and no one goes home without some goodies!
