Lamellar and Laminar

This armor is constructed from numerous plates connected to each other in an overlapping fashion by cord, chain link, or similar methods. Unlike scale, the plates of this type of armor are firmly connected to each other in such a way that they resist penetration. Lamellar armor differs from other rigid metal armors in that mobility is provided by the small amount of flex and slack in the attachment between the individual plates.

Requirements:

  • Metal must be at least equivalent to Aluminum in density and durability. (2.7g/cm3)
    • If Aluminum - 1mm / 0.040” / 18ga
    • If Steel - 0.9mm / 0.036” / 20ga
  • Plates must overlap by at least 5%.
  • Plates connect directly to each other without any backing for support.

Examples of Superior Construction include, but are not limited to:

  • Heavy Metal: Steel, Bronze, and similar density metals.
  • Fluted: Each plate has been fluted.
  • Thicker Material: At least 1.3mm / 0.051” / 16ga
  • Greater Overlap: 75% of Plates overlap by at least 25% of their surface area.
