Tournament Rules
Basics
- MTG Format: Commander
- Groupings: 4 players per pod.
- Time: 1 hour per round.
- Rounds: 2 rounds, random pairings.
No Proxies. All cards must be real.
Scoring
Whenever a player does the indicated action: they are awarded the corresponding points:
- Defeating an opponent with 21+ Commander-damage: 3 Points.
- Defeating an opponent with any other form of combat damage: 2 Points.
- Defeating an opponent, or winning the game, with any other method: 1 Point.
- Defeating the final opponent, thus winning the game, is worth Double Points (i.e. +6pts or +4pts or +2pts)
Matchmaking
Tournament structure consists of 2 rounds of randomized matchmaking, followed by a third and final round of just the top-4 highest-scoring players.
Players accumulate points across multiple rounds. These points do not influence the second-round matchmaking (which is done randomly). Rounds are time-limited. For the third and final round: most players are eliminated, and the top-four players play one final match. Grand Prizes are awarded to the top 3 players according to their final cumulative scores.
Game Design Philosophy
Within the game of MTG Commander: the Commander card is supposed to represent the player. You are the commander. This tourney was designed to encourage Magic players to fight with the honor and chivalrousness of a sword-knight. Winning MTG with an infinite-combo is like a caster killing with verbals or spell-balls! Killing with 21-commander-damage is like beating an opponent in 1v1 with single shorts. In this tourney: fight with the honor of a knight, regardless of the color of the belt you wear!
