Heavy Scale

This style includes armor created with heavy scales arranged in an overlapping pattern and secured to each other along one edge with rings or on rigid backing. Individual scales are not held into firm contact with the others.

  • Is a Tier 5 armor style.
  • Must meet the Universal Equipment Requirements.
  • Scales must overlap by at least 10%.
  • The backing material must not be visible through the scales.
  • Scales must be a metal at least equivalent to Aluminum in density and durability. (2.7g/cm3)
  • The standard Material Thickness for Heavy Scales is based on the metal used:
    • Aluminum Heavy Scales: 16ga (0.051") (1.291mm)
    • Steel Heavy Scales: 18ga (0.048") (1.214mm)
    • For rings and backing materials, consult the Material Thickness chart.
