History

For a hundred years, wars were waged in the southern lands of Pangea, Mountain Valley. Its fertile lands were coveted by the leaders of surrounding countries. Hundreds of thousands of lives were lost, but the Pangeans held their land. To do this, the corrupt leaders and generals of Pageans would draft children into the military to be trained to fight for their country. Any attempt to resist would be punished by death.

At the age of 14, it was very unusual for a child not to be already in training. It must have been some mistake in the census that left Kai unnoticed. Raised by a family of farmers in the west, she was strong and opinionated. When the military found out that she had not been drafted, the order was given to forcefully take her, but Kai had other plans. When a patrol of soldiers came to her door, she resisted being detained and the soldiers responded with force. Grabbing her father's axe, she killed all of the soldiers that came for her. Her parents, knowing that the military would be back with more numbers, told Kai to flee to the east. The night after she left, the military returned and slaughtered her family.

On her way through Mountain Valley, she came across a young clergy mempber, a boy not much older than her, who the military left alone. She found out that he simply went by B.B.B. No one really knows how he got that title or why he never discloses his real name. Hungry and Worn out, Kai collapsed outside the church. He took her in and fed the girl. Figuring he could be trusted, she told him her story. Angry with the military for being the cause of the deaths of his brothers and becuse the war was considered unholy, B.B.B. decided to join Kai and get out of the country.

One night, as they passed through the largest city in Mountain Valley, Dark Castle, they were stopped by a patrol. The had nowhere to go and their backs were to a wall. The Sergeant was harassing them and when he gave the order to kill, one of the soldiers ran his sword through the Sergeants throat. The other soldiers stopped after witnessing this and turned on him. He picked up the dead man's sword and killed the remaining soldiers in the patrol. Kai and B.B.B. were confused about what they just witnessed. They found out that the boy, who was their age, was fed up with being forced to fight this war. He had considered flight before, but was never able to and knew he would never get another chance like this. Fellow soldiers called him the Jack of Clubs. The three took the weapons from the dead soldiers and continued through city.

On the outskirts of Dark Castle they fought many troops and beasts. Their survival and combat skills grew greater each day. One morning as they hid out in a barn, they were confronted by a farmer. In an attempt to earn his favor, the three told them their tale. He sympathized with them. Seeing the potential these three strays, he asked a favor from them in retun for his hospitality, that they take his daughter, Quinn, with them. She was eleven and the would soon be drafted. The three agreed to take her and taught her basic combat skills.

The four would go on to be known as the Strays of Mountain Valley. The Strays did not stop once they got out of Pangea. They continued to travel across the globe. Ambitious young folk would later join them. The Strays it was not until recently that the Strays of Mountain Valley would find a place to call home. They have settled in and fight for Souls Crossing.

But the Strays remember their homes and families. In their memory, they dawn a triangle on their garb, weapons, or skin, symbolizing the Mountain.
