Leg on Death
A form of Ditch battle in which leg shots are not called unless they would be kill shots, eg. an arm has already been lost.
Usually this form of ditching becomes popular in provinces with a lot of Stick Jocks, who consider leg shots to be a pointless tactic and little more than an inconvenience.
This form of ditching is also popular in places where ground conditions make fighting from ones knees uncomfortable or dangerous eg. rocks, mud, broken glass.
Siar Geata fighter practices are often LoD simply because we're all wearing normal clothing and don't want mud/grass stains on our pants. --Lucas 14:03, 24 June 2009 (EDT)
Thoughts from the Stick Jock side of things:
Stick Jocks do not find taking legs to be "pointless tactics". Leg on Death is used to teach yourself and or others to throw shots that affect the killing power of your opponent by taking out their weapon, shield, or straight up killing them.
Legging a person only reduces mobility which is very useful at times however is not conducive of teaching people how to fight better in Amtgard. A legged person "especially with a shield" will commonly go into a very defensive stance because they can not move easily, this makes it harder for a newer player to kill this person and it makes a newer player left legged basically out of the fighting until someone decides to take care of them.
When leg on death is used, it teaches people to look for targets that take out their opponents ability to hit them, it also teaches accuracy as you have to really try to hit a smaller target area, fakes, feints, trick shots, and other such tools are easier learned when you have to be accurate and decisive in your shots. Also the ability to close distance on someone, block while doing it, and fighting at closer ranges are all easier taught when leg on death is used.
As mentioned above when the field of play is not conducive to plopping down on your knees, LoD offers an advantage to keep playing while not inviting as much possible injury.
