Biography

We are a fighting company formed in December of 2011, in the Barony of the Ivory Tower, under the Principality of Rivermoor. Our fighting company is dedicated to improvement, be it in martial prowess, armoring, garbing, or statesmanship. We are mercenaries, and willing to accept the best contract available. We are dedicated to having a good time, and improving the Ivory Tower. We emphasize improving on the aspects that we enjoy, and team-work. We feel that it's good to have a group of people to rely on, and that we fight well together, so it seemed like a natural choice to form a fighting company. We emphasize that members get armor, and try to generally improve the look of our park, as well as serve in court positions, reeve, and take new players under their wing. Of course we enjoy fighting, as well.

Over time, we have developed an additional emphasis on armored combat, as well as team-fighting. Many of our members are armorers, be it with plate-mail, or chain armor and leather. This has allowed us to field our entire company in armor with relative ease.

Regimental Ranks and Structure

  • The General, Lord General Fellhand presides over the company. Duties include Company Orientation, Regimentation, and diplomacy to our rival companies and non-affiliated Amtgarders.
  • Following the General Directly is the Regimental Commander. Duties include Regimental Tactics, Communication to the regimental Majors, unity in the Regiment and formulation of productive and challenging expectations.
  • The regimental Majors function as the chief of each regiment. Jackal's regiments are divided per park/geographic location. Duties of the Major include communication with the Flag Officers, relaying orders, drills and expectations to his or her Jackals and prepping them for their role in upcoming inter-province events.
  • Each regiment is divided into autonomous columns led by sergeants. Duties of the Sergeant include communication with the Major and other Sergeants to form an identity and battlefield role for the column. It is additionally the Sergeants' role to act as the battlefield voice for his or her column.
  • The Jackal is the standard rank of Jackal Company, representing confirmation through a lengthy trial period of petitioning and prospecting as well as a confidence vote. Duties include communication with his or her Sergeant and Major, to seek growth and to never allow complacency in his or her personal journeys.
  • The lowest rank is that of prospect, reserved as a petitioning status to the fighting company, and allows us to evaluate prospective members, as well as to allow prospective members to evaluate us. This individual responds to his or her Sponsor (anybody rank Jackal or higher can be a Sponsor). Duties and expectations can be found in "Becoming a Jackal" section.

Jackal Company's Chain of Command is as follows:

  • General - The Commanding Officer of Jackal Company.
  • Commander - The Executive Officer of Jackal Company
  • Major - A regimental officer who ensures the prosperity of his or her regiment at a geographic location.
  • Sergeant - Leaders of individual columns according to line or flank designation.
  • Jackal - Rank-and-file soldiers of columns. Is the youngest rank allowed to wear the Vert and Argent quarters of Jackal Company.
  • Prospect - A petitioner status, this person does not wear the quartered garb of full-members, but instead wears what is referred to as "halves." This is a surcoat halved with green on the left, and white on the right.

Forlorn Hope - overview and Ranks

Forlorn Hope acts as a unit of skirmishers and offensive casters within Jackal Company. Forlorn Hope members are company veterans that seek more independence within the company and outside the ranks of regiments. The natural advantage is that a talented caster or skirmisher can act freely on the battlefield without the possibility of hanging his or her line out to get swept by an enemy flanker. However, the independence allowed in this regiment means that Forlorn Hope acts without the direct support of a line or regiment around them, making this a dangerous position on the battlefield, making the name "Forlorn Hope" quite appropriate for an inexperienced fighter.

  • The General, Lord General Fellhand presides over the company.
  • Following the General Directly is the FH Commander, who oversees the training and growth of all FH, regardless of location.
  • The Forlorn Hope jackals will respond only to the FH Commander. These individuals fight as skirmishers or casters independent of the support necessary from the Regiments.
  • Those who wish to join Forlorn Hope must first be accepted to the rank of Jackal, as per "Becoming a Jackal" below. After being accepted as a Jackal, they may petition to be transferred to Forlorn Hope, and will be held to a ballot with the General, Regimental and Forlorn Hope Commanders and Forlorn Hope members voting.

Garb and Colors

Our colors are dark green (Vert) and white (Argent), and each member of the company has a surcoat with four quadrants, green to the top left, and bottom right, white to the top right, and bottom left.

  • Top right quadrant, the company heraldry is worn
  • Top left quadrant, the regiment number is worn (those outside the regiment will wear a white X)
  • Bottom left, the chevrons that represent rank are worn
  • Bottom right the device of the Major officer is worn. (The General and Commander wear their own devices.)

Becoming a Jackal

Becoming a prospect in Jackal Company: Effective October 1st 2013, Individuals wishing to join Jackal Company shall fulfill the minimum following criteria. Becoming a Jackal is no small task - it takes, at its minimum, just shy of two years to achieve. A company is a very large commitment. We place stringent requirement to ensure that attrition remains at a minimum.

  • The individual must be active in Amtgard (no less than two credits a month) for three months before an initial interest will be accepted by Jackal Company.
  • The individual shall express his or her initial interest to petition the company. The company will not accept the individual as a prospect before a minimum of six months following his or her expressing initial interest, adding to a minimum of nine months' active participation before allowing an individual to be up for vote for the rank of prospect.
  • The individual shall pass an allthing by simple majority which will take place on Friday of Summer Trials. At this time, if accepted, the new prospect shall take on a sponsor who will oversee the criteria for the prospect to fulfill before he or she may be considered for rank of Jackal.

Being promoted to rank of Jackal in Jackal Company:

  • Once becoming a prospect, the prospect shall be a prospect for approximately a year (based on the dates of Summer Trials).
  • The sponsor shall lay forth expectations and criteria for the prospect within one month of acceptance. These will encourage growth in the Arts and Sciences, Fighting, Role Play/story, Service and/or Leadership. Growth is requirded and we will not accept lazy prospects to the rank of Jackal.
  • The prospect's sponsor shall be given the opportunity to speak on whether the prospect is ready to be a full member of Jackal Company. After that time, a vote will be opened for that prospect.
  • The prospect shall pass this althing. At this time, he or she will be considered a Jackal, with his or her home park's Sgts and Major deciding placement no later than a month following promotion.

For exceptional circumstances, an emergency althing can be presented by anyone rank Jackal or higher.

Also, it should go without saying, but exceptional disciplinary insubordination, gross misconduct or tarnishing the company image will be grounds for emergency althing for removal. In extreme circumstances (gross violation of mundane law, suspension or expulsion from Amtgard events or kingdoms, abuse of any kind, etc.) the General may make an autocratic decision to remove an individual from the company.
