| − | Many will claim but very few know the actual history of the ship that would go on to be called The Brute. In this short missive I hope to enlighten, entertain, and educate the good people of the land as to the creation, early history, and current state of affairs of The Brute. There are those in academic circles who have already ridiculed this treatise based solely on their knowledge of the author, and while fair, it is also hurtful.

| − | The Brute was quite simply the worst ship ever built. It sank during its first three launching attempts, 4 of the 5 shipwrights who designed it were hung for gross incompetence, the 5th was asleep in the hold for the first launch and drowned. On the forth launch, by some unnamed unknowable miracle it stayed afloat to the surprise of everyone except its eventual buyer, Jack the Black. Jack had heard of the ships problems and looked over the designs, he asked that the weight be dramatically increased in the bilge in the form of ballast, the boatsmiths said they would on the contingency that if it worked Jack the Black must buy the ship, otherwise if it went down again the general consensus of the shipyard was to let it rot at the bottom of the harbor.

| − | Miracles, both good and bad, happen every day and so it was that Jack the Black became owner of “The Brute”. From the beginning Jack, wanted the Brute to be a different kind of privateer vessel. His crew was mostly misfits and nerdowells that had no other port or ship to call home. The Brute almost never turned away someone for either a job, safe passage, or just a bit of help. The first turn the Brute took toward real privateering was during a small local war, but truth be told the ship and crew ended up saving more ships in trouble then they did plundering any of them. The Captains strict “fair is fair” policy meant all got a fair cut, and no one was mistreated beyond a few jokes or good natured ribbings. One lass was so relieved to find out the crew had all agreed to a “No means no and Aye means Aye” policy that she joined up as the new head of H ARRGGGG. It was a fine time, with a swelling crew and a reputation of being the nicest pirates on the high seas. But trouble was soon to follow these high times on the high seas as trouble is often want to do.

| − | While exploring the coast south of Goldenvale the Brute came across a fairly large pod of Narwhals. Now Narwhals are friendly but dang playful and a few thought that having a ramming game against the hull of the Brute would be great fun. After 6 or 7 got stuck against the port side the great Brute started to list lazily to the left. She took on water and had to make for shore, luckily we were in one of the calmest most beautiful bays we had ever laid eyes upon. With more and more Narwhals getting stuck to the sides of the Brute we had to drop anchor, get the poor things unstuck, and start making repairs. Members of the crew and passengers alike started exploring the land and decided that it would make a fine new port and perhaps even a home for the Brute. Dubbed Brutes Bay, but colloquially called Brooty (rhymes with fruity) Bay it became a freehold in the Amtgard land and the rest is way more history then we have time to write here.

History
Founded in April, 2019 by Captain Jack the Black, Mariner Eldritch Moontide, and Bill the Archer, Brute's Bay is Boston's local Amtgard park.

We meet near the South Boston Sports Collective in Joe Moakley Park from 11 to 3 on Sundays and sometimes go out for food or drinks afterward depending on the exhaustion level. The park is huge so we roam a bit look for garb and foam.
By T take the redline to JFK stop and cross over to Joe Moakly park and walk a few blocks to the sports center. Nice neighborhood, very close to JFK library. For drivers there is plenty of parking you just might have to walk around the park a bit.
