Hey, I'm going through Serpent Knights adding Masterhoods as appropriate. I can't edit MHOG's page and he needs a Category: Master Dragon please and thank you. (Shadowmusicgurl on the wiki, Roslyn Tul Amt Name, Rosaline Fortascue Facebook Name)

I have lowered the protection status so you can make changes, just make sure you are logged in and it will work. I also made the change. - Crispin 17:17, 2 September 2014 (EDT)

hay. thanks for the facebook/ORK3 link fix. Munch Ironfistersson 16:05, 21 September 2014 (EDT)

No problem, check out the others we have listed in the "help" section - Crispin 10:16, 22 September 2014 (EDT)

Daedera Dragoneye Megan Schultz (on FB)

I just have a quick question; how does one create a subgroup or add a page to a subgroup? I was trying to update "http://amtwiki.net/amtwiki/index.php/Rising_Winds_People" by linking the additional parks to the subgroup of the page and removing the parks that are no longer active. Currently the subgroup only lists 11 of the RW parks and a few of them are defunct.

I'm going to contact you on FB so we can figure out exactly how to make it look like you want it too. - Crispin 13:19, 20 November 2014 (EST)

Confused about the statement you made on talk:Bayard. Are you saying Bayard was a banned player who removed his own information, or that User:Bayard removed someone else's information and just also happened to blank his own page? Only matters for sake of afd nominiations. Ricken (talk) 17:15, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

Ausar was banned a while back but doesn't have the appropriate red text warning. Also, should we add pages for banned members from the e-sam monarchy's list of banned players? Just for reference to others. Ricken (talk) 18:16, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

I was never informed of a banning on Ausar, where did you here or learn of the banning?
As for adding pages, I had a long conversation with Goldcrest during his Ombudsman time and it was decided if they do not already have a page,
there is no reason to create one just to log a banning. - Crispin 20:00, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

Main Page Error

I designed the main page a while back. I am getting the following error under the image area on the right for Current Kingdoms: "Error: image is invalid or non-existent." Any idea what change broke this part of the main page's functionality or when it occured?   Takaffi   talk    contribs    email   12:14, 14 April 2015 (EDT)

That's super weird. Neither the file nor the the Main Page have been altered since January. I last looked at the main page maybe 5 days ago, and nothing was in error then. We haven't even had a MediaWiki update or an update to Extension:ImageMap. Ricken (talk) 15:07, 14 April 2015 (EDT)
Yeah this happens from time to time, all you do is go into the edit screen select "preview" then hit "save" and it fixes itself, some conflict in the programming. Hoping it goes away with the new update. - Crispin 21:44, 14 April 2015 (EDT)

Botpocalypse

The spam bots have been busy. The Recent Changes page bleeds red. Though I was once an admin, those powers have apparently vanished into the ether, possibly due to lack of use.
So while I'd like to nuke some bots and kill some spam ad pages, I can only point out their existence and wish you the best, for now. Mithrandiel 22:22, 17 October 2015 (EDT) (AKA Miles)

Thanks for the heads up, this all started a year ago, seems October is there busy month. We will get right on undoing there damage. - Crispin 23:43, 18 October 2015 (EDT)

My Wonderful Squire-Bro

Took an Amtgard (and Amtwiki) break and came back in a flurry of midnight editing. Avoiding Facebook for a while. Can you give me to lowdown on the state of the amtwiki administration? You don't seem to be active edit-wise recently, but you might poke in occassionally. Sent the same message to Renjara just in case. Any news from the You/Casca/Goldcrest consulate? I'd love to get back to my big projects I had pulled from under me. Ricken (talk) 03:56, 26 March 2016 (EDT)

Left you a message on you board Sis. - Crispin 19:06, 26 March 2016 (EDT)

Suggestion: Portal Namespace

On Wikipedia (and many other wikis) there is a namespace called "Portal", whose pages feature braod categories and links to pages, topics, and other portals concerning that topic. A good example is the Wikipedia Portal for New Zealand, which features links to articles about the country and its people/culture/history/etc. I thought we could use this to inspire a better solution to the Amtgard Resources and Tutorials pages, which are right now a bit of an ugly mess.

I've been messing around with a layout draft on my sandbox and want to know what you think of the idea and the look of the layout. We can also include links to tutorials and specific resources here. I know we can't implement anything right now, but it wouldn't hurt to make drafts for all my big projects to implement as soon as the flag drops (hopefully) at Clan.

This concept would require a major rewriting of many resource pages, as some are blank and most are stubs and very lacking. But we were going to do that anyway.

Ricken (talk) 22:12, 29 March 2016 (EDT)

I'd love to see that wedged in between the top Amt Catagories section and the bottom Map/Upcoming E's/News. So go with it - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

Bot please?

Hey, it's Ricken. Could I get bot permissions on this account? I want to test out the bot api so we can have something cool in the future. I won't be making a lot of edits all at once until we get permission and I know for sure it works. I swear to every god ever I won't break the wiki. Ricken-bot 22:40, 29 March 2016 (EDT)

 Permissions granted - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

I've been busy on here, no apologies for bothering you so much, SD would be proud.

I'm re-writing the AmtWiki rules. They are kinda lacking. No word on anything being changed between you committee members, so if I finish soon and you guys need to talk about administration rules you can steal mine. I don't care, I just want everything nicely formatted.

Anyway, can we change the term "ban" in regards to AmtWiki to "blocked"? Since the Amtgard term is also "banned", and the button we use to ban people actually say "block", and since it's also the term Mediawiki and Wikipedia uses, it would be so much less confusing.

Someone might be banned IRL, but be a perfectly nice editor on AmtWiki. Alternatively, we might ban a vandal here who is in perfectly good standing IRL. It's confusing to just call someone "banned", so we could say the person is "blocked" online.

Just an idea, could avoid a mix-up in the future. Ricken (talk) 17:00, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

No new rules without CoM approval, but a revamp of the existing is perfectly fine, I fully agree on a better use of the Block/Ban terms so go forward on those - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

I made new admin-happy things!

I wonder if a lot of other admins/editors don't do things outside of their kingdom (or even their park) on here because they don't know what to do. Sure, there's a to-do list, but a lot of it is upkeep. There is a lot on the wiki that needs to be reformatted, cleaned up, and edited. A lot of the wiki is incomplete, hidden under the BS that admins have to deal with already. I made two solutions to this! To be fair, these are stolen directly from Wikipedia and should be been put in place in 2007, but shhhhh, innovation, hurray.

  • The first is the inclusion of Category:Stubs, which catalogs short articles that need to be expanded. I've already added a number here for examples. Articles can be added to the category by adding the template {{stub}} at the top of the page. This transcludes a nice little template onto the page that says "This article is a stub. You can help AmtWiki by expanding it." The definition of stubs, as well as an explanation on where/why/how to mark them are detailed on Amtwiki:Stubs.
Don't see any problems with doing this. - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)
  • The second is Category:Articles needing cleanup, which groups articles that require any sort of cleanup. The template for this category also allows the person tagging the article to add a reason for its inclusion, so that future editors can fix it. If anyone comes across an article that needs some love, but doesn't have the time or talent to do so, they can add the template at the top instead so others can fix it. I'll be making a page explaining this process as well.
I saw the issue on the Flat blade page, so your resolution is a good fix Maybe change it's name to "Mod's At Work" or "Future work zone" Don't be shy at being corny - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

I really do enjoy making the content of this wiki worthwhile, but even though I often have the time to complete thousands of edits a month, I obviously can't do this alone. Making stubs and cleanup articles into an administrative category would not only give willing editors a place to add real content, but also let me pawn off my work to others. Plus, other admins don't have huge chunks of time to do a ton of work here, so improving articles bit by bit is a great way to make a real difference in the little amount of time they might have.

No, I agree. It opens up for a lot more information to be added and updated and if this will work the way I'm thinking it will it will give any admin wondering what to do between large projects, some busy work. - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

I'm telling you this here, instead of on the FB group for admins, because I can't get on FB for the near future for mundane reasons. I'd appreciate if you would give this task to the rest of the active admins so we can get work done before I'm allowed to pull out the big guns after Clan (hopefully). I'll also add this to the Admin portal that just Zell and I seem to use, in case I finish revamping it later and force it upon all admins in a facist glee. You are going to have to inform me of the reasons why no FB and the repeated text messages I have sent you being un-answered, but not here I'll wait, good to see your not only alive but productively living.- Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

I'm doing about 8 wiki projects concurrently. If there are any admins on the group who have any interests in helping with some of the legwork, I can assign them to something. We really need more hands on deck, even doing minor amounts of work.

Sorry not sorry for the long message, I'll eventually get my phone working so I can just have you call me. Ricken (talk) 20:06, 3 April 2016 (EDT)

Articles for cleanup template usage

An idea I had on the way to park today

Assuming at Clan you are not ousted (I think that threat is pretty much gone), I think we need to have a Grand Re-opening of the wiki. Finally update the damn thing, add anti-spam measures, make all of the administrative templates nice and pretty, and get a new site-wide layout (possibly the one User:Balach was working on with User:rkane and I but I'm not married to it).

As a "welcome back to the wiki" initiative, we have a month-long editing drive. Do something similar to Heraldry with Harold and run weekly themes, encouraging people to update certain parts of the wiki and add their perspective to the pages. A week of culture, highlighting articles on Amtgard Things and add their own local slang terms. Week of history, where we catch up on the gaps we have on pages detailing pieces of Amtgard history, and ask people to kindly donate relevant photos for events that are currently image-less. A week of A&S, getting people to add links to their own tutorials on making things in arts and sciences, and getting photos to better display examples of Amtgardian-made A&S entries on specific pages. A week of companies and households, getting more information on intra-Amtgard groups where there is currently a dearth of facts, including updating member lists and adding group accomplishments.

We need to get people back to editing the wiki of their own volition, and creating a web culture that values the Amtwiki as an updated source of information. Of course, we would have a lot of work to do before we present this wiki as "new and improved".

Just an idea. Ricken (talk) 20:24, 3 April 2016 (EDT)

Once we get a new CoM we will get the ball rolling again, a Year on our thumbs has been very frustrating to say the least, but the wiki is worth it and we will make it greater than it has once been. - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

Player stubs

Should I make stubs for player pages? Some may never be completely filled out, but perhaps making a stub category for players will give a place where we can get older people to go through and see if they have any information on people we know little about. Thoughts? Ricken (talk) 22:21, 3 April 2016 (EDT)

Don't see the Harm in it so Yes. - Crispin 16:14, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

About my phone....

I totally forgot to charge it. Sorry. It'll be on tomorrow and I'll be up by noon, not sure of your schedule, so if you need to call me then I'll finally be prepared.

Talked to Renjara this weekend. No apologies for returning to my insane editing schedule. I like having a 4-digit number next to my recent edit count, what can I say. I'm rewriting the rules in my own userspace so it doesn't actually affect the wiki yet. I'll send you a link again once I finish, lots of work and revisions to do. Should be complete by the end of the week. Also wrote out a summary that I'll add as a temporary splash page for you and Goldcrest and Casca. Most likely will link it to the main FB page, these are consensus based rules after all and the people should have a say.

I'm injecting more anarchy into these rules, but there will also be more rules themselves, so who knows? It seems to work for Wikipedia, from who I am stealing borrowing most of the policies. They are great about very specific and very vague rules, seems perfect for us. Ricken (talk) 23:12, 10 April 2016 (EDT)

Beep boop bots

The bot is working! We now have a semi-automated process for doing tedious tasks. I'm going to make a list of all the things it can do, and a page where people can request tasks to be completed by User:Ricken:bot. I'll add it to the list of things I need to update the admins on.

Also, is there a permissions reason why you are a bot? Also wondering about User:Rkane. As a bot, your edits are auto-hidden on Special:RecentChanges, and with all of the accountability issues people have been concerned with recently, it's probably for the best that you and Reggie are not bot accounts. (I made sure my bot link to my main account, and Zell's already does.) Ricken (talk) 17:56, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

Mine was placed there when I received permissions, never really thought to change it. in the interest of those watch dogging me I'll remove it, but never saw it as an issue. when all anyone has to do is look at my contribs to see everything I've ever done. As for Reggie's Rkane I had forgot to remove it when he was transferred to the ork team. - Crispin 17:37, 23 April 2016 (EDT)

Blank Page

Please blank my Amtwiki page. Zuko Von Kirathelle. Thank you

I'm sorry I am no longer the head of the AmtWiki, and as such do not have the power to remove information from a banned players page. 22:46, 3 January 2019 (CST)
