As you know last year at Clan the Burning Lands offered Amtgard a great gift in giving control of the rule book and the creation of new groups authorized to produce said rule book to a body elected by all of us. The transition board elected at Clan last year has been working on this since then. Especially JP Prentiss (Sir Medryn) has been doing lots of free lawyer work for us to get this established and complete. Its a long process and as you can see from the task list below, there is still much to go. Still it also shows how many important tasks have been completed. All the items marked as incomplete are underway or have dependencies among those tasks which are underway. PLease see the Clan 2015 minutes for more details about the overall goal here.

Greetings! As a member of the Amtgard International Board of Directors, I’ve got an update for everybody regarding our progress on wrapping up the transition process from the BLBoD to the Circle-of-Monarchs owned BoD (AI BOD).
We’re pretty much there: We’ve got the copyright transferred from BL We’re incorporated in Colorado We’ve transferred the rights from the BL via contract We’re registered federally and have an EIN.
So Amtgard belongs to Amtgard. This is a big deal for all of us. It means that you, individually, all have a concrete and absolute say in the future of Amtgard and how it works. We’re a real Republic now, and that’s so exciting. This is the culmination of something I’ve been working towards for over a decade. This means that, forever forward, Amtgard is in the hands of the people instead of individuals with their own agenda.
There are some things we’re still working on: New contracts for new groups Writing up a draft kingdom process for CoM approval Writing up a draft freehold agreement for groups that aren’t part of kingdoms Registering in the state of Texas Transferring any copyright interest from the V8 committee to the AIBoD (right now this done by fiat, the V8 committee is part of the BoD, we’re just drafting a contract to finish it up)
The only bad news is that we’ve run into a bit of a catch with registering the Trademark federally. Somebody registered the trademark erroneously with incorrect information on behalf of themselves for the Amtgard name. We’re talking to them and it’s going to get fixed, but it’s going to take us another three to six months if they aren’t willing to retract their claim so we can assert ours. Otherwise we have to wait for the Trademark review process to go through, then file an objection, then file a counter-claim, and various other legal shenanigans. It’s unfortunate, but this kind of thing happens from time to time. Obviously we don’t want some random guy or group owning the Trademark, so we’ll make sure to get it cleared up and transferred to the CoM.
