Standard fantasy race. In folklore the word comes from the Norwegian "Alf", which is also where we get "Dwarf" from. This is why Santa's Elves act much more like dwarves than what we normally think of as elves in a fantasy context, which is based on Tolkien.

In Amtgard terms, anyone can claim to be an Elf as the race for their character class, but this does not add any game abilities. Normally this just consists of wearing pointed ears and trying to role-play as an elf.

There are some write-ups out there that do in fact try to define elves as a class or a race that grants abilties (effectively a monster). You should check with your monarch and Guildmaster of Monsters before playing one to find out what is acceptable.

Elf, a Monster

There are many variations on the Common elf. Take a peak at the entries below for more information.
