The Kingdom of the Emerald Hills grew out of a group of SCAdians, the Incipient Shire of the Freehills, who were disenchanted with the way things were being done in the SCA. Around this time, Delphos and Nevron had moved to the Dallas area from El Paso. Delphos, looking to join the SCA in Dallas, met with the people of the Freehills and showed them Amtgard.
The first battle game was held at Lakeside Park in Duncanville, Texas March 23rd 1988. A battle between Sable Pride vs. Wolfpack. From there, things moved very quickly as more and more people heard about this new group and came to see what it was all about.
