A condition in which the foam near the tip of a foam sword (near where it usually hits things, about 3-4" from the end) becomes broken down to the point that when squeezed, the core can be felt.  Such a sword is dangerous and should be repaired.   This happens frequently enough that fixing them is a standard operation, many amtgarders can quickly perform this repair on the sidelines in a few minutes, replacing the tip with fresh foam.
