In the Midwestern United States, groups elevated to Duchy status tend to develop a culture of entitlement and over-inflated egos in relation to the actual level of talent and merit. This is often reflected in players receiving higher level awards for much less than they are recommended to be awarded for and a poor attitude toward players from nearby chapters.

It is hypothesized that this phenomenon is the result of the Amt-void in that players from the rare large group mistaking achievement within their relatively isolated chapter for what actually passes for being good in places where Amtgard actually exists.
