Kaembryge Society

From AmtWiki

As you travel around the Kingdoms of Amtgardia, you very quickly develop an appreciation for the variations and eccentricities that make each province and kingdom so different from each other. Kaembryge is – as you’d guess – no exception.

The first and most striking aspect is how much honey is produced and exported for trade to the south and north, a testament to the very large bee population which makes itself known during much of the year. With so much honey you of course find a very large bear population, and you will frequently see tunics and other devices bearing the ancient Borderlands name for bears, being ‘Baylor.’

Another common tradition is the Day of the Ditch, often held once per reign with the Spring Day used as a preparation day for the trials at the Celestial Kingdom’s annual Spring War, the provincial champion will partner with local heralds to draw people from across the kingdom and region to Kaembryge to engage in the non-stop combat style known as ‘ditching,’ with these activities often lasting hours on end as the warriors prepare themselves for the trials to come.

While disturbing to this paladin’s sensibilities, Kaembryge is full of arguably very neutral people both ethically and morally, most likely due to the pronounced cultural shift from the ways of the Emerald Hills to the ways of the Celestial Kingdom. Given the border nature of this city, a purely black-and-white understanding or treatment of the region is impossible, and those newly within the province’s borders would do well to recognize this and act accordingly.

Finally, and it is really only a minor talking point, is a note for travelers like myself from other lands. The natives of Kaembryge refer to Ironman tournaments as “Bear Pits,” presumably due to the region’s fixation with bears. Do not worry, as the rules are essentially the same from your home variations. One man takes all comers one at a time until he falls, wherein his killer assumes his place in the center of the ‘pit.’ Savage, for certain, but the most effective way to build a strong fighter in this humble author’s opinion.
