Emrys Bloodstar started playing Amtgard at the age of nine sometime around late 1996, at the Silverwater park in Lake Worth, Florida. Silverwater at the time was a chapter of The Kingdom of the Burning Lands. His early fight training came from Decado Bloodstar. In 2000 he began training extensively under Omen Bloodstar. In 2001, he was recruited to join Dragoon (now defunct as most of the active members were absorbed into the Triads).
In 2003 he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee and began training with members of the fighting company Sons of Ra (now defunct, as the captains broke up the company so they too could join the Triads), though he never joined the company. During this time, he fought at the park Mystic Glade (now known as Radiant Valley) and began to mold the techniques he had learned from Decado and Omen with the new techniques he was learning from Don Gilan Bluff (who, in Emrys’s opinion, is/was one of the best fighters east of the Mississippi).
In late 2004 Emrys moved back to Florida and fought at Silverwater until 2008, when he moved out of state again and went into hiatus. He returned in 2012 this time fighting out of both Mountain of the Sixth Dawn in Dunbar, West Virginia and Blackfire Valley in Huntington, West Virginia. Though his attendance was very spotty.
Once again, he returned to Florida in 2015, this time to find that his home park Silverwater had disbanded, and in it’s place was the new park Crest Haven, although the core of the group were the same people he had grown up with in Silverwater. At the time, Crest Haven was a cross platform larp group. They played Amtgard, Dagorhir, and Satsu. Emrys was not a big fan of this as he is without a doubt an Amtgard loyalist. But since a large chunk of the current members were there for the cross gaming aspect, there was not much he could do about it without either tearing the group apart, or simply not play.
During this time, Emrys became close friends with Gr’Rakt Bloodstar, and Newlok Tree, both of whom he had been friends with over the years, but not to the extent that they now were. Gr’Rakt was an old school member of Silverwater from back in Emrys’s first days at Amtgard, and had been close with his first two trainers (Decado and Omen). We had all started in Amtgard at the same park, generally around the same time as in real life we all lived in the same neighborhood and were friends in mundane life. This was when Gr’Rakt had asked Emrys if he would like to join the Bloodstar household, and since the people he had looked up to at Amtgard from the beginning were Bloodstars he readily accepted.
In 2016, Emrys was very active and ambitious. Although he wanted to join the Triads, he didn’t believe that was very likely, and because of this he decided he wanted to create his own fighting company. So he approached his friends Newlok and Gr’Rakt with the idea to start a company called Annunaki. Newlok, having had fairly recently dealt with some drama due to the way that his former company (Blackstar) had been led, wanted to have the all company decisions handled democratically. Not being able to foresee the problems this could cause concerning the direction that the company would take, Emrys along with Gr’Rakt agreed to Newlok’s proposal. It didn’t take very long however for Emrys to see the mistake he had made. The three then recruited a few more members, including Myth, Super Duck, Tennalwynn, and Snak Pak and they all began to write the bylaws and aims of the company. It was in this recruiting and writing of the bylaws that Emrys realized that by allowing all decisions to be purely democratic, he had no power to prevent people from joining that he didn’t believe were of the right material or at least not yet ready. Very quickly he found the company he had helped form filled with people that although he liked personally were not, in his mind, of the right caliber. However, Annunaki was an instant powerhouse in the Kingdom of Neverwinter. In the term following the founding of the company, all of the Kingdom officials were members. Tragedy would strike to change that all too soon, and with rapid succession. Before the company had even made their official debut, Tennalwynn had died in a car accident. Shortly after the debut it was learned that one of the founders, Newlok, was losing the battle with a disease he had been fighting for quite a while, and was forced to leave Amtgard. Not long after that, the battle was lost completely and Newlok passed from this world. Between the members he didn’t want in the company, the death of two others, and the lack of control he had in the company, Emrys decided it was best that he leave. All of this was another major blow for Emrys, for he had not only lost a friend, but the thing he had built in part with that friend, which he felt had extreme potential, was also gone to him.
These days, Emrys continues to work on building his skill in fighting, but has also began to expand his skill in the arts and sciences of Amtgard. His goals now, are to try to become the best fighter and garber that he can be, he hopes to one day become a Knight of the Sword, and a Knight of the Serpent. And his newest goal is to take his 20+ years of experience in Amtgard to become a leader to Crest Haven, the Kingdom of Neverwinter, and Amtgard as a whole.
