Serious, what is the deal with the "elevated to kingdom status" bit? A lot of old timers in the EH 100% disagree.

I started in amtgard at barad-duin, june 88. Yes, we did achieve kingdom status. What is confusing, is that out of a sense of wanting to feel superior, we voted to keep the title of grand duchy. I was there, and we did hold a populace vote. The reasoning, was that a duchy could be as good as, if not better than a kingdom. I know that later on, barad-duin adopted the title of kingdom, they held to calling themselves a duchy for a while.

Also, I think you would need to put the date of withdrawal a bit earlier in the year. It was more like january 1990, not september or november. I moved back to san antonio in may 1990, and by that time, barad-duin had been out of amtgard for several months. Also, I found a couple of old chroniclers and a palantir that give some dates.

I found for instance an advertisement for the second olympiad to be held in barad-duin, at their coronation in march 1990. Looking at that, I remembered that because barad-duin dropped out, the olympiad was not held at all that year, and in fact was held the next year. Since barad-duin never held an olympiad, it obviously had to have happened before march 1990.

Also,i have another one that mentions the meeting held at king nevron's coronation, concerning trying to keep barad-duin in amtgard. I remember this, because I was asked to sit in on it. This was in november of 89. Considering this chronicler shows dates for january thru march, and since it mentions barad-duin running the 2nd olympiad, obviously the date for barad-duin leaving amtgard would have to be sometime in december 89 to february 90.

What happened, was that EH came down to visit barad-duin, and there was a lot of hostility. Cain, a citizen of EH stood up on a picnic table at peace park, and flipped off the populace of barad-duin. At the ducal court that evening, they held a vote on the subject, and I got up to speak against it. Obviously the vote went for dropping out at that time.

btw, barad-duin didn't get kingdom status until 89. At the time of the first coronation they were still a duchy. We finally got kingdom status, but it was more like burning land through us a bone to keep us in amtgard. That didn't happen until sometime in 89.
