This page serves as a guide to the broad policies and guidelines that are considered essential to maintaining and improving AmtWiki. These policies will evolve over time as the wiki develops and expands. Policies refer to the rules that editors should normally follow. Guidelines are practices that are supported by the consensus of the community and are often supported by common sense. These are future broken down into the following categories:
Content: defines the scope of articles and pictures that can be included in the wiki
Conduct: describes how editors work together and what editor behavior is acceptable, and how policies are enforced
Style: shows the layout and formatting of wiki information
Classification: explains the way information is categorized on the wiki
Deletion: accounts for the way deletion is handled
Community Guidelines
Be Bold!. Anyone can edit AmtWiki, so don't be shy. Write your persona's history on your personal page, update your park monarchy, or make a page for your new household.
Write what you know. Contribute to things that mean something to you. If you don't know something, look it up, or leave it for other people to add.
Assume good faith. AmtWiki is open for people from all over Amtgard to edit. We assume that most contributors are here to help the project, not hurt it, or else this project would have never become what it is today. If you think an editor is causing a problem, talk to them about it first.
Treat people with respect. A little friendly attitude online goes a long way.
Don't bite the newbies. Remember that you were once a newbie, too. Welcome new users, and help new players find resources that they need.
Don't be disruptive. Vandalism, spam, and harassment go against the core values of both AmtWiki and Amtgard itself.
Admin Guidelines
Admins are present on AmtWiki to keep everything running smoothly. Some admins are assigned to a particular Kingdom, while others keep the Rulebook articles current or update the Current Events. They clean up spam and vandalism, intervene is disputes, encourage usage of the wiki, and keep things going. In addition to the standards we hold for every editor, admins are held to a special standard to fir their privileges and responsibilities:
Revert and block spam and vandalism. AmtWiki admins are librarians, but they are also often janitors. Several spam accounts are made every day, and it's the job of admins to clean it up as fast as possible.
Be fair. Consider situations before acting. If an editor makes a simple mistake, allow them a chance to fix it themselves. If an editor doesn't adhere to policies, talk to them and let them repair their mistakes before enacting enforcement.
Encourage participation. Be friendly and welcoming to new editors. Help them learn to navigate AmtWiki. Fixing an error will make it better for a day, but teaching an editor to fix it themselves will make all of the wiki better.
Be structured, but flexible. Maintain the policies and standards of the wiki, but also be open to growth and change.
Adhere to direction from the Linden. Talk to the rest of the admin team, especially Crispin, before making any major changes.
