Wielded

Equipment is considered Wielded when it is being held in a manner appropriate for its use in the game of Amtgard.

  1. Equipment must be wielded in order to attack, defend, throw, or otherwise be used for its intended purpose.
  2. If something cannot be wielded, it can still be held or carried, but cannot perform its intended function and should not be presented in a way that would suggest it is wielded. (see HSR#2)
  3. Players can only wield one piece of equipment per hand, except for Shields (see below).
  4. Players may only ever wield a single Shield at a time, however they can be wielded simultaneously in the same hand as another piece of equipment, except Bows/Crossbows (see below).
    1. Medium, Large, and Tower Shields must be held by their handle to be wielded.
    2. Bucklers and Small Shields must be Worn on the arm or Held by their handle to be wielded.
    3. Shields with straps can only be wielded when worn on a single arm or held in hand. They cannot be wielded while worn like a backpack or strapped to other parts of the body such as the torso, legs, hip, or head.
  5. Bows and Crossbows cannot be wielded with any other equipment (besides arrows) in the same hand, nor can they be held in a hand that is wielding another piece of equipment.
    1. A shield may be strapped to the arm as long as there is no risk of it interfering with the safe use of the bow.
  6. Thrown projectiles are only considered Wielded during the throwing motion. They are considered unwielded equipment at all other times. Thrown projectiles cannot be thrown with a hand that is holding another piece of equipment. For example, a player can hold a spellball in their sword hand and still fight with that sword but if they want to throw the spellball they’ll need to transfer it to an empty hand or sheath the sword.
