The Thing is a digital heraldry rendering which roughly accounts for your nobility title in the form of a coronet based on the Heraldry with Harold nobility system, the belted status of the individual in question, and their person heraldry.
Should you desire the thing you should send him a message formatted thusly:

"Oh great and wonderful Thingmaker, I beseech thee make me a thing with which I might display my Amtgard prowess.
My Amtgard name is __________, my highest recognized nobility title is _________, and the current belt(s) I hold include __________, and I have enclosed hereafter an image of my current heraldry"

While there are many variations of a thing request the most proper and accepted for is as listed above, but all requests should certainly include your Amtgard name, highest nobility title, current belted status, and an image of your heraldry.
