History
Satsubatsu Gumi claims to play a boffer sport unrelated to amtgard yet they tag all of their videos Amtgard, and list it on their group's myspace page.
Satsubatsu Gumi is a boffer fighting clan that meets in West Palm Beach. They are a part of the Sakura Moon Empire and were the first clan in the South for the Empire. Along with Hitokiri Oni, they are the beginnings of the Shogunate of the South.
The clan itself was formed in 2003 but under no official name or banner. It's members would meet once or twice a week and participate in Eastern styled weapons bouts with various solid oak weapons including bokken, staff, Kali sticks, tonfa, and some weapons that had no proper name. The group also trained in unarmed fighting styles including Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Kung-Fu, Tae Kwon Do, and Ninjutsu. All of the unarmed styles were taught by members that had experience in the styles, whereas the weapons bouts were more free-for-all showcases of skill. After injuries took their toll on the members they all went separate ways. Years later, the present Daimyo of Satsubatsu Gumi was introduced to boffer fighting. Boffer fighting helped to revive the old group from years past and bring in new members along the way.
The clan itself is about three months old and stands at roughly 20 members.
Satsubatsu Gumi fights with weapons that are NOT Amtgard legal and use the Amtgard rules as a base for weapons combat. While fighting with clans from the Empire, they fight under SME rules. When training at their own park, they play under SME rules that have been altered to make the fighting more true to combat rather than let it devolve into a mindless game.
