History

MWG was granted Duchy status Dec 14th, 2002 by King Bone in March of 2006 the populace decided to step down to a shire due to declining numbers

On March 25, 2008 - King Morgan decided to pull the contract between MWG and the EH. Here are the facts that led up to the decision:

Many things have been alleged over the last few months so let's take some time to give MWGs side of things. If anyone from the Emerald Hills wishes to add their side, they are more than welcome. The following are all facts as known by the populace of MWG and belong in the history section.

1) After Morgan became the Heir, but before he took office, he made a statement about not letting children under 14 fight. When questioned about it, he told several members of MWG that while that was his official stance, he didn't play at MWG and what went on while he was not there he wouldn't know about. This led some members of the populace to conclude that the kids could play but not in the presence of the Crown.

2) A visitor to MWG complained about kids on the field on the list, thus making Morgan take official notice, whereupon he stated that kids could not fight with adults except in one-on-one teaching situations, but they could participate in battlegames designed for kids under 14.

3) Some members of MWG felt that Morgan was going back on what he told them in private and made statements that they have since apologized for to the relevant parties.

4) MWG worked within the framework set by the king to create battlegames for kids under 14. The PM came out and said that Morgan said the kids could not earn anything but Color credits. MORGAN NEVER SAID THIS! Not to anyone at MWG and not on any list or forum that I have been able to find.

MWG looked at all of the rules and came to the following conclusions:

a) Anything agreed upon by the King and PM is law until the next Allthing. Since only the PM had made the statement, this rule didn't apply.

b) A battlegame needs at least 5 participants to count (the minimum # for a shire) and the kids normally drew at least twice that number for their games.

c) Members of Amtgard have to have read the rulebook, have a Name, Persona, and Garb. All the kids who fight meet these criteria.

d) You must sign in and play your class in a battlegame in order to get credit. All of the kids signed in, played their class in a battlegame consisting of 5 or more people and wear wearing the appropriate garb and using the appropriate rules. Therefor, they get credit.

e) Some people have pointed out a small clause in the Corpora (Residents E.1) that says the following - "Participate' is defined as attend, sign-in, and interact in accordance to the nature of the function as determined by the PM or the PM's designated representative." gives the PM the authority to unilaterally decide that kids can only get Color credit. If you read closer, it only says that the the PM can define the nature of a function. This has always been the clause that lets you sign in and get class credit at Dragon Master or other special events without playing in a battlegame. It does not give the PM the right to decide that two people doing the same activity (playing in a battlegame) can be treated differently based on age. In fact, the contract with the EH specifically FORBIDS discriminating on the basis of age.

5) Someone, without a word before or after the fact went and changed credits in the ORK after they were entered. The PM then changed the passwords and removed kingdom write access so that unauthorized persons could not further damage the records.
