From the Combat Rules section of the Rulebook

Stabs which fail to strike with the tip. These contacts slide against a victim instead of impacting cleanly. Note that a shot that hits your opponent legitimately, and then turns into a draw cut will still wound or kill the opponent as per the initial blow.
