Darkwater East

Amtgard group located in Gainesville FL under the Kingdom of Neverwinter Plays on Sundays in Kanapha Veteran's Park.

Heraldry

Darkwater East has gone through a large number of devices over the years.

Originally they used a device of a blue water drop on a black field, then at a Spring War realized it looked almost exactly like the device of the Wetlands.

They then put a sword in front of the water drop. But some complained that this looked like a penis in front of a vagina.

They then chose a blue wave on a black circle. But some complained this looked a lot like the Pepsi logo. People still sometimes mockingly say "Darkwater, the choice of a new generation"....

They then added a cave mouth over the blue wavy area, complete with stalactites. But some complained that all those stalactites were hard to sew on garb.

They now have the blue on black but it is more of a wave crest so it doesn't look like Pepsi. For now. It could have changed again by the time you read this.

History

There was an earlier attempt at a group in the area called "The Sinking Lands" (reference to sinkholes) started by Varg.

When Kitirat, who had played at Silverwater moved to Gainesville, he started the group with the help of others including Varg. The group quickly grew in size, and has at varous points been the largest Amtgard group in Florida.

The group was originally named Darkwater (a reference to underwater cave pools in the area) but they discovered that there was already a Shire of Darkwater (named for similar reasons) in Portales, NM. Instead of picking a new name, they contacted that group and set up an arrangement, and thus became Darkwater East. Several people from DWE joined a household from the other Darkwater called the The Brothers and Sisters of War and Vengeance.
