Image aof a seated woman wearing a Shaube over her dress for warmth, mid 15th century style.

A loose jacket worn by german peasants in the 13th-17 century. It is characterized by an open front pinned at the neckline, much like a Viking kaftan. In the fifteenth century It had a short collar that folds over at the neckline, usually lined with fur or at least a different color wool. Later the collar became longer and more emphasized.

Side and back view of a 16th century Shaube.
