Page Problems.
I'm trying to fix it so my page and my profile sync. As of now, my profile says there is no page (was deleted because it was duplicate?), but when I search for myself I find my page. Page name is Moonyen, profile name is Moonyen, real name is Christine.
- Ok no problem, I was reviewing and saw it being the same I will return it as it was with 1 addition - Ork3 link active. My apologies for this inconvenience.
Hmm, I still have to edit one page, and then the other. Is there any way to make the user page and the info page the same page? Moonyen/Christine
Moonyen, sorry this took so long to reply, but I have been researching how to do this and the only thing really is to merge the two pages which will effectively erase one- so I'm guessing not an option?
- Do something like what Linden did with hers and redirect the one page to the other. Please redirect the article page to the userpage though, you have no idea how hard it is to get to someone's talk page if you do it the other way. Zell Faze 06:41, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
Skipcaptcha right
I'm requesting that a new permissions group be created for editors that clearly are not bots that has the skipcaptcha right, allowing us to not have to fill out a captcha every single time we make an edit. I'm also requesting that if such a group is made that Ibe put in it. You can trust me not to be some random Internet spammer. I've made several constructive edits here and Ihave a strong history with both Amtgard and wikis.
I have been playing Amtgard for the last seven years. I don't get out to the field much because of the travel distance involved, but Ido ditch with some friends at my home every week and I am intending to start a group here where I live so that tthe travel issue might be resolved.
I am also an editor on the English Wikipedia where I have made over 1,500 edits. Between all Wikimedia Foundation projects Ihave made over 2,600 edits and I have been editting there for over five years. If you count edits on other smaller Wikis, such as this one, the number is likely substantially higher still. Additionally I do Mediawiki extension development as part of what I do for a living, and as of last week have also submitted patches to Mediawiki core. I am on the Mediawiki developer mailing list and the Mediawiki enterprise mailing list. I myself own and administer a number of Wikis. This should show that I have substantial experience with mediawiki and Wikis in general and am not likely to do something awful as soon as the captcha is turned off.
If you are willing to do this I can walk you through the changes to LocalSettings.php and tthe changes you will have to make in Mediawiki itself. I emailed Linden asking about this last night, but upon checking her contribs, it apears she hasn't been active here in some time.
Also if you guys ever need any help with anything feel free to ask. Wikis and the creation of freely licensed content are both passions of mine. Parser Functions Extension
Aaaahhh! I just realized this Wiki doesn't have Parser Functions installed. I know I'm new and I've already made one request for changes to the configuration of the Wiki, but can I make just one more. Can you please install Parser Functions? It comes pre-packaged with Mediawiki in 1.18, so it literally just needs to be enabled. Its an extremely commonly used extension that makes it possible to do rudimentary scripting with templates and would make life a whole lot easier on me. This is literally the first public Wiki that I have edited that didn't have it installed. I just sort of assumed that you guys did. Zell Faze (Talk) 07:23, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
- Excellent usecase of this is a template I want to make to mark defunct chapters. Currently we categorize them and mark them by hand. I want to create a template named Template:Defunct Chapter that optionally takes a parameter year (
{{Defunct Chapter|year=}}
). If the year is given then the template outputs a box that says "This chapter went defunct in XXXX" and categorises the chapter in both the defunct chapters category and the defunct by year, if the year is not given then it just says "This chapter is defunct." and categorises it in the defunct chapters category and the defunct in year ???? category. The wording of the messages and changing templates like that can't be done without Parser Functions. Zell Faze (Talk) 10:22, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
Copyright Violations
How do we handle copyright law violations here (there are some images on this wiki that clearly don't belong) and do we have blanket permission from Amtgard Inc. to make use of text from their rulebooks and Copora? I've been operating on the assumption that we do, but I haven't found anything to support that other than that this Wiki seems semi-official. The license for the Amtgard Rulebook is incompatible with the license of this Wiki otherwise and we'd be relegated to only fair use amounts of the rulebook text. Even if we do have permission to use text from the rulebook and the Corpora, we might want to make it explicitly as such since it wouldn't be licensed CC-BY-SA like the rest of the content on this Wiki is and other might not be allowed to reuse pages containing that text except for personal use, as outlined in the license for the Rulebook. Sorry to bombard you with so many questions and requests. Zell Faze (Talk) 10:02, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
- Hello Zel I have sent you an Email so we can discuss this kinda stuff and not make a text book out of my talk page :P I should be able to answer most of your questions and those I can not, I will find answers for you if there are any to be found.
Need Admin Assistance
There is an Afd that I have started at 7.2. I don't think that it is likely that anyone will object. What is the process here for an Afd? Is there somewhere that I should list them, or is the category that they get put in enough? Should I have informed you or another admin? Or would you have found it on your own? Zell Faze (Talk) 11:18, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
- Yes an admin would have noticed all changes to the wiki are reviewed by us, and at anytime we can undo any changes made that are not beneficial to the wiki. I would refrain from deletions and do as you have already, which is to flag it for deletion and let an admin take care of that step. Btw- you really should check your email so we can discuss this :)
