As a youth of such low station Ursan worked the fields of the lord and fell in with a rough crowd. From the age of reason until in his 20th year he followed the ways of the vagabond, bouncing from village to village with no purpose. He stumbled upon an old black smith in the village of his youth. A man unlike any other he had met, tall of frame with a ready smile and a grip like hardened steel, the blacksmith took Ursan in and taught him the ways of the forge and that the goal of a pure life was to serve.
