"Our" Legio VIIII Hispania practices and drills the formation movements and fighting styles of the early- to mid- Imperial Era, and as a sideline we also experiment with siege weapons and other machinery of war, but in keeping with the historical Ninth's foreign-born makeup, we aren't really 'Roman' in character beyond that.  All types of personas are welcome.  We've been known to accept a bar-bar into the ranks, and maybe even an elf or two.

Nobody-- absolutely nobody-- beat the Romans when it came to systematically picking an enemy force apart with surgical precision and skill! Our fighting company is based loosely on the many myths and legends surrounding one legion in particular, the Roman 9th Spanish Legion, which disappeared from history in 109 A.D. Formed by Juilius Caesar, and later re-formed by Augustus, the Ninth was comprised of Spanish and British citizens of the Empire and served it with distinction for 150 years. Various legends have it that after being surrounded by enemy hordes and completely cut off from Roman civilization, the Ninth fought its was across Britannia and Germania, carving a swath through the barbarian tribes that were then sapping the strength of the Empire to the East. Legend has it that the Ninth undertook its long journey in a vain attempt to return home, or to find a land where they could live free from Roman domination, or to complete some super-secret mission on behalf of the Emperor (stories vary).

"Our" Legio VIIII Hispania studies the movement and fighting skills of the early- to mid- Imperial Era, and as a sideline we also experiment with siege weapons and other machinery of war, but in keeping with the historical Ninth's foreign-born makeup, we aren't really 'Roman' in character beyond that. All types of personas are welcome. We've been known to accept a bar-bar into the ranks, and maybe even an elf or two.

Legio VIIII Hispania was formed by Maccalus Caerwent Ex in 2008. As a new fighting company, most of our history has yet to be written.
