Blackfire Valley was founded around [[2003]], originally as an on campus group of Marshall University. They were kicked off campus as a group when someone who wasn't in the group picked up one of the weapons during a demo and ran around hitting random pedestrians. Land contract in [[2007]]. We are unique for two reasons: one, we are stick jocks. Role Play for us is a when we have our patented Pirate Battles. For the most part we just do battlegames, usually one or two with class, and one or two non class. Two, most of our people use weapons that are considerably heavier than other shires, with pvc cores instead of kitespar and golfclub shafts. We encourage a slightly more realistic use of weapon, not the slap and tap that most shires use. Its not uncommon to see our members using massive red weapons.

Our shire meets every Sunday in Ritter Park, usually by the large stone circle near 8th Street (at the foot of the steps to get up to the Rose Garden). If it is looking rainy, or if the area is clear enough, we will meet at the picnic shelter at the end of the park (by the playground equipment). We try to meet at 2:30 pm, but sometimes we start up as late as 3:00 pm. We play until dark, or until we get tired!

We welcome newcomers and if you're 18 or older, just sign a waiver and we'll get you started! People age 14 to 17 must have a parent/guardian sign their waiver before participating. Children 13 or younger must have a parent/guardian present during play after presenting a signed waiver.

History

Blackfire Valley was founded around 2003, originally as an on campus group of Marshall University. They later moved to Ritter Park and became an official land in 2007. Originally under the Burning Lands, but now sponsored by the Rising Winds.
