Player Page Upkeep
An updated player page is a happy player page.
Find a Player's Ork Page
There are a number of ways to do so. The more information you have, the easier it is.
- If all you have is their Amtgard name, you can search for it in the top right corner. This tends to give a lot of noise, and is difficult to use well.
- If you know their name and Kingdom, you can go to the kingdom page on the ORK, Expand the "Find" tab, click "Players" and enter their name here. This is usually enough to find most players.
- If you know what park they play in, you can go to the park page on the ORK, and use the "Search Players" link.
- If none of the above works, you will probably have to reach out to the player themselves, or a PM for either their park or kingdom.
Getting a Player's ORK ID
Once you have found the player's page on the ORK, look in the address bar. You should see an address similar to this...
https://amtgard.com/ork/orkui/index.php?Route=Player/index/58948
The numbers all the way to the right are the player's Ork ID.
New Players
- Only create accounts for users when they request it, or with their permission Some people prefer that their information not be publicized.
- Use the Player Entry Template for the basic framework of the page. Fill out as much of the appropriate information as possible.
- Check their ORK page to for notable awards, titles, masterhoods etc...
Updating Player Pages
This will most frequently be a followup to an update made by the player themselves. What happens most often is they will change their page to indicate a new title shown, or award received, location change etc... and we will need to make sure their categories are up to date.
Occasionally a player will reach out for us to make a change on their behalf because they cannot get logged into the wiki, or are receiving an error when they update their page. In this case we should both make the update, and try to fix the issue they are having as well.
Moving Player Pages
Moving Player Pages There are a few circumstance under which this will need to be done.
- The player changes their name.
- The player uses a title as part of the page name.
- The player created their page on their User page.
- To create a disambiguation page when multiple players have the same name, or a player has the same name as an Amtgard term.
Instructions:
- Just go to the user's page, and click the "Move" link on the right side of the page.
- Under "To new title:" put the name you want to change the page to.
- Enter a reason in the "Reason" field.
- Check or uncheck boxes for leaving a redirect as appropriate, usually it is a good idea to leave a redirect, unless you intend to create a new page with the same name as the old one.
Deleting Player Pages
Note: Only delete a page at the player's request, or if it is spam or other disallowed post.
Instructions:
- Go to the page you need to delete.
- Click the "delete" link on the right side of the page.
- Select a reason from the drop down menu.
- Enter another reason if applicable. If there is no other reason, I usually delete what was in that box.
- Click the "Delete page" button.
Fixing Page Errors
Some page will occasionally give a 403 error when you attempt to update them or use the preview feature. This seems to be caused by a security module designed to prevent SQL-injection attacks.
To resolve these issues:
- Check their ORK link, this is the most common cause of the problem. It should say id2= instead of id=
- Otherwise it is being caused by just a word/word combination located on the page somewhere that the wiki does not like.
- Go to edit mode. And delete about half the page and hit the preview button.
- If the page still gets the error, then you know the error is in the remaining text.
- At this point you can delete that text line by line until the error goes away.
- Remember to just use the preview button, not the save button. This way you are not actually altering the page.
- Once you have found the line that is causing the error.
- Cancel your edits by clicking on the page tab.
- Go back into edit mode, and alter that line until the error goes away.
- Save the page.
Note: I have found pages that were getting these errors from multiple lines before.
Fixing Login Issues
Occasionally a player will be unable to log in to the wiki. Currently the only known work around is to rename the user, then rename them back. This can be done by:
- Go to the Special Pages link found in the left menu.
- Go to the "Users and rights" section.
- Click the "Rename user" link.
- Change their username to something else (just add a number to their name etc..)
- Change their username back to what it was.
The above currently is not working, the user will need to create a new account.
If this does not work, they will need to create a new account.
