The mundane person behind the noble Halfling Rune had her first introduction to the game of Amtgard in July of 2001. She arrived at a friend's home moving out of state and was informed "Oh good, you made it. We have field day tomorrow." There was much disappointment when she returned to her hometown to discover that there appeared to be no local parks, and in fact, a distinct lack of an interest. So, she shared her love of the game with her siblings, and contented herself to live the life of the mundane. In late March of 2016, after having seen Amtgarders at a local store on a couple of different occasions, she reached out through social media, putting out the call for help. She was then put in touch with Thalion Othar, who brought her into the park of The Barony of the Dragon's Tale on April 2nd, 2016. And happily, she can say that she has never looked back.

Rune Brightblade, of The Barony of the Dragon's Tale, The Kingdom of the Rising Winds

”An indicative quote”

Biography

Rune Brightblade is the not the name I was born with. Instead, it's one I've taken for myself because I know that the road I walk will come with enemies. And I would not willingly see harm brought down on my loved ones, because of my choices. I'm not writing this, because I intend anyone to see it. In fact, once I've finished, I'll throw it in the fire. Because no one really needs to know who I was only who I am now. I was born as Giea Fentlock, under the sign of the Blade. The youngest child of Malik and Jedah Fentlock I lived a quiet, humble, and unassuming life with parents and my five sisters and brothers. We were farmers. And while not wealthy, we didn't really struggle either. I remember that we always had what we needed. We never went hungry, or cold. And there were always people. Visitors, travelers. We lived a full day's travel from the closest village, and we would often shelter travelers as they passed through, sometimes resupplying their rations before sending them on their way. I was never really...content with our quiet life. I always wanted more. Ma always said it was because I was touched by the gods. I was just different. I came early, almost six weeks, a tiny, still baby. Silent. A storm passed through, one of the worst my parents can ever remember seeing, it left a path of destruction in its wake. And as Ma held me, ready to grieve, she says that lightning split the sky, turned night to day for one brilliant moment. When it passed, I was wailing my tiny little head off. So, while my sisters and my brothers spent their time acting half afraid of our guests, I badgered them. Full of questions. I wanted to know where they were from, where they were going, the places and things they'd seen. I wanted to know everything. Most of the time, my curiosity was met with good-natured amusement, but sometimes, in very rare instances, it was encouraged. Sir Garrick Rheagis was one of those who encouraged my questions. It was through him that I was introduced to the "Old Code", and from him that I received my most treasured possessions. Books. His stories, his mannerisms, his generosity and his kindness gave birth to the dream that would consume my childhood. I wanted to be a knight.

Of course my family discouraged it. It was silly. Halflings don't become knights, and the uneducated daughters of Halfling farmers certainly don't become knights. I taught myself to read and write, using the books Sir Garrick gave me. My days were full of battling invisible villains and monsters with swords made of sticks, rescuing damsels in distress, and conversing with legends. Time passed, my siblings grew up, married, moved onto their own farms nearby and we started to build a little community. And then, as it often happens, things changed. A group of brigands, let by a deposed knight came through. They were fleeing the Crown's justice. They demanded the usual things I guess, all our valuables, fresh horses, supplies. The thing is, we didn't really have valuables. Not like they were looking for. Gold and gemstones, things like that. And we didn't have horses, they weren't practical for us, just the shaggy ponies we used to pull the plow and our cart. But Da offered them supplies, whatever they wanted, as much as they could carry. They tried to take Delisa, my brother Keldon's wife and he fought back. So they killed him. And no one...no one did anything. Even when it was taken to the local Guard, no one did anything. I guess, that was when I really made up my mind. Maybe there was a reason I was so different. Maybe I was meant to do more than just work the soil. I've lived my life around the words. I've always said they shaped the person I want to be. But it's time I make them mean something again. Sworn to valor. To know only virtue. To defend the helpless, uphold the weak...

So this is me, closing the book on Giea Fentlock. After today, she doesn't exist anymore. I can't risk making enemies and them going after my family. They don't deserve that. Where I go from here isn't certain. But I'll manage. Somehow.
