A fighting company started in 2008 by Maccalus Caerwent Ex. This company is based loosely on the many myths and legends regarding the Roman 9th Spanish Legion, which disappeared from history in 109 A.D. after a crushing defeat in Britannia. The legion was never disbanded and its standard was never retired, and although elements of the Ninth were later deployed in Nijmegen, the legion doesn't appear to have ever been mustered again as a single fighting unit. Various legends have it that the Ninth fought its was across Britannia and Germania, carving a swath through the barbarian tribes which were sapping the strength of Empire in those days, in a vain attempt to return home or to complete some super-secret mission on behalf of the Emperor (stories vary).
