Line 1: Line 1:

One of the oldest Amtgard games. Two lines are marked on the ground about 30' apart. One player is chosen to be the hound. The rest of the players are the foxes line up behind one of the lines. The hound calls out 'fox across the river' and they other players run across the 'river' to cross the other line. The hound tries to kill as many as he can. All players have weapons and the foxes can easily overwhelm the hound at first. The hounds are all healed and returned to life as soon as there are no live foxes in between the lines in the 'river'. Foxes keep all wounds and the dead foxes join the hound team, fully healed. Then the original hound once again calls for the foxes to cross the river. The objective is to be the last remaining fox. You win the game this way and get to start the next round as the hound.

A variant of this game (based on a Swimming Pool variant of the original playground game this is based on) is Sharks and Minnows. In amtgard terms Minnows (Foxes) are only allowed a single short sword while the initial Shark (Hound) can use whatever weapon combo desired, including shields.
