A Ward is an underage player, whose parent or guardian has temporarily passed guardianship of them to a "Mentor," an older player on the field who is typically of the same class. Wards are legally allowed to fight and participate in all events as long as their Mentor is currently present. It involves a contract, written agreement, and a lot of paperwork, and only takes effect in their home park unless an exception is specifically made by an Officer of the visited park.

Once paired, a Mentor and Ward will be together until the Ward turns 14; because of this, great care is taken when choosing them, and an unaffiliated Ward may sit on the sidelines for weeks looking for a promising player to be their Mentor. In some places, prizes and special weapons are given for the pair that gets along best or that shows the most improvement.

Affectionate terms for Wards include "minion," "serf," or "little brother/sister," depending on the relationship and the Mentor's temperament.

Not to be confused with the terms Page, Squire, or Apprentice.

As of right now, Wards are specific to the Shire of Icefire Bay.
