The Great Emperor is a NPC created by The Bitter Coast Quest Guild for use in the ongoing Bitter Coast Quest Campaign, which has been told over several reigns.
The being, which came to lead the Drow Empire, had no name for itself, but was called the "Great Emperor" by the Drow Elite, who led his armies. The title "Great Emperor" is not meant to denote the sex of the being, for as far as anyone can tell, the being is neither male nor female. The Emperor is composed almost entirely of armor, which is filled with a mailable substance, which resembles dirt or moss. It never speaks, but has been observed to wield a fair amount of magical spells, and has great martial ability. The Emperor's most amazing ability, is that he is seemingly invulnerable to physical and magical harm. This may be due to his armor, or the physical and magical properties that form his existence.
The Great Emperor appeared during the Centennial renewal of the treaty between the Sylvan Elves (more commonly known as Common Elves, or simply "Elves"), and the Drow (more commonly known as "Deep-Dweller Elves"). During the renewal ceremony, a fight broke out, in which both the leaders of the Elves and Drow were slain. The two armies sought revenge, and began fighting small skirmish battles. The Drow had the upper hand, and victory seemed near as they attacked a small Elven fortress using a demonic warrior, but that's when the being, which would be called the Great Emperor appeared.
He rose out of the ground, and began attacking and killing everything is sight. Only the Demonic warrior seemed to wound it when, after it was struck down and dematerialized, stunned the creature, and knocked his helmet off, revealing only darkness and evil where it's helmet had been.
After a long fight, in which the creature almost single-handedly slew both sides, it fled after a combined attack from both the Elves and Drow. Neither side knew what to make of the creature, and left to rally their armies to war against the other.
When the Drow elite met to choose a new Emperor, the creature appeared again, this time in the heart of the Drow's subterranean Kingdom. An aged Drow Oracle proclaimed the creature the new Emperor, and after those who objected were slain, we was crowned Emperor of the Drow.
One Kingdom, was simply not enough for the Emperor, and he rallied the Drow, and led them on a crusade, which led to the conquering and subjection of the Ork Hordes, and several Human settlements which were scattered around the Drow lands. They also began to annihilate the Elvish settlements and armies they came across, as well as any army that made themselves the Elves ally (namely the Dwarves, and several Human Kingdoms).
The Elves, and their allies formed, the "Elven Alliance", but even with their forces combined, could not defeat the Drow, and their invulnerable Emperor. They fled to Engoku, where the Drow had few allies, and the Elves many, for a last-stand battle.
As the Drow ships transported the endless stream of Orks, Drow, and Humans, to Engoku for the final battle, all hope seemed lost, and victory was assured for the Drow Empire. It was then, during the Drow Empire's siege preparations, the Great Emperor vanished, seemingly out of thin-air. At first, the Empire continued their preparations, thinking that he would return in a day or two, but as the weeks rolled on, and their leader did not return, the Empire began to succumb to in-fighting.
The Ork Horde (which only follows the strongest leader) challenged the Drow Empress (the wife of the slain Drow Emperor, and leader of the Drow), claiming that if she could not beat him battle, the Drow were not worthy to command the Orks. Although the Drow Emperess had considerable magic powers, the Ork War-chief was too strong, and the Drow Empress was defeated. The Drow would not submit to the Orks, whom they thought of as inferior, and fighting broke out between the two sides, which spilled over into the Empires ranks, with each side attacking the other.
the Elven Alliance, heard the noise of battle, and after some spies told them what was happening, they rallied their armies, and drove the Drow Empire back into their ships, and the war was seemingly over.
The Drow Empire then raided, and abandoned all the lands which it had conquered, and returned to it's subterranean domain. The Ork Hordes, also returned to their land, as well as the various humans allies of the Ork and Drow. Peace is seems, had come at last.
To this day, it is unknown what exactly happened to the Great Emperor, but few believe he is gone for good.
