Staff Masta

A term to describe an elite master of the Quarterstaff, or any Stave in general.

Staffs, because of their associations with magic (in literature, as well as the cheap cost in magic points for amtgard wizards and other spell casters to purchase in 7.x and earlier), are typically seen as a flurby weapon.

The term "Staff Masta" is generally derogatory in use, as most stick jocks insist the Quarterstaff is an inefficient weapon, and hold that anyone truly skilled will quickly abandon it for a more efficient weapon. They will insist that no one can be dominant with a quarterstaff, and people who are even mildly competent do so because they wield it like a spear, and would be much improved by removing one end and converting it into a spear.

Countering this, some will insist that there are in fact top level amtgard fighters out there somewhere who specialize in the use of the Quarterstaff. These masters (whether they exist or not) have been tagged with the label "Staff Masta", or sometimes "leet Staff Masta", to use leet speak. In keeping with this it may even be spelled in "leet", such as "$74ff /\/\4$74".
