Staff Masta

"Staff Masta" is a derogatory term used to describe an elite master of the Quarterstaff, or any stave in general.

Staffs are often associatiated with magic in literature, and had a cheap magic point cost for Amtgard spell casters to purchase in Version 7.7 and earlier. Because of this, they are typically seen as a flurby weapon.

The term "Staff Masta" is generally derogatory in use, as most stick jocks insist that the Quarterstaff is an inefficient weapon, and hold that anyone who is truly skilled will quickly abandon it for a more efficient weapon. They propose that no one can be dominant with a quarterstaff, and that people who are even mildly competent do so because they wield it like a spear. Following this logic, stave wielders would be much improved by removing one end of their stave and converting it into a spear.

Some stave proponents insist that there are top level Amtgard fighters who specialize in the use of the Quarterstaff. These masters (whether they exist or not) have been tagged by others as "Staff Masta", or sometimes "leet Staff Masta", using leet speak. The term may even be spelled in "leet", such as "$74ff /\/\4$74".
