Moving Trees / Sacred Wind

Merging moving trees page in to the sacred wind page, IMO having to pages for the same land is non-optimal. Munch Ironfistersson 22:42, 13 April 2015 (EDT)

Hello! All previous chapters, even those who were simply renamed and re-contracted, are required to have a page on the wiki. I'm removing the redirect from the Moving Trees page and reinstating the previous information and changing the categories back to defunct. This way, it remains out of the active park categories and no one gets confused. If you have any questions about this, feel free drop me a line on my talk page. Ricken (talk) 00:34, 14 April 2015 (EDT)
Hi Ricken. As per AmtWiki:Rules#Chapter_pages I did not delete the Moving Trees page, and I also left the Categories in-place as well. Your right though I should have left the defunct listings in-place. Beyond that in the past I was not able to find any rules that precluded redirects...I just took another look around I stile cant seem-to find anything about redirects, redirect restrictions or redirect guidelines specifically. :-( Help:Linking for example does not mention redirects at all, also a general search revels hundreds of examples of redirects used in a similar way. To my-mind this looks like a conventional and ubiquitous use. I will what on your response, and I Thank you for your time. Munch Ironfistersson 08:49, 14 April 2015 (EDT)

I responded to this on Talk:Moving Trees page, since I didn't realize you posted it in both places. Sorry about the confusion, let me know if you have any issues with this or anything else on AmtWiki. Ricken (talk) 14:50, 14 April 2015 (EDT)

Our policies and guidelines are currently being expanded and rewritten to reflect our unwritten practices. The help section is also in the middle of an expansion, and will mention redirects when it's completed. Redirects are not added to pages already containing information, and chapter pages with information are not blanked unless they are duplicate pages and the contents of all pages are being merged. In this case, the two parks are considered separate. Sorry about the confusion. Ricken (talk) 14:51, 14 April 2015 (EDT)
Ricken I thank you for your prompt response. :-D "unless they are duplicate pages and the contents of all pages are being merged." To merged the pages, This was my intention. I well continue with the merge. but hold of on any further redirects in-till that time when the "written" policies and guidelines clarify their use. ;-) Munch Ironfistersson 16:05, 14 April 2015 (EDT)
I think I misspoke, or at least concerning this particular instance. Parks that change their names submit a new contract to the Burning Lands, thereby making them a new park, even if membership, location, and all other details have not changed. AmtWiki has established policy of retaining information of the pages of defunct parks, even those who are not actually defunct due to a name change. This keeps the history of parks preserved, and continuity across the site.
If you see another park in a situation like this who has had a name change and has a redirect from the old park name, let me know, because this is incorrect and we must have let that slip past accidentally. Other redirect usage includes for misspellings, pluralized articles, and player name changes, not for park name changes.
Keep the Moving Trees information as part of the historical record, but keep the Sacred Winds information updated as an active park. Thanks for the understanding, and I'll make sure the new policies include this to prevent further confusion. Ricken (talk) 16:20, 14 April 2015 (EDT)
Interesting, and no that makes sense I'm for preserving AMT-past so AMT-present has some prospective on were we go, and why, and so I agree and will cease and desist from merging the two pages. Even though I think it likely that they did not obtain a new contract, I think there intent to do so can be inferred. I thank you Ricken for your time explaining this matter to me. FYI. For historic completeness, and to clarify what we are talking about to anyone that sees this in the future. Moving Trees switched names to Sacred Wind not Sacred Winds. Sacred Winds was the first Amtgard land in Ellensburg, WA. SWs started it all locally and holds an idealized past type power with amtgarders in E-burg, and the surrounding area. Sacred Winds operated from 1999 to 2008 or their bout's. Now Moving Trees was started in response to SWs going defunct, and was contracted in April 2009 and operated under that name until summer 2011 when the name was changed by vote. To the perennially confusing Sacred Wind. which is an example of the rallying power that Sacred Winds name still has here. Again thank you. Munch Ironfistersson 03:13, 15 April 2015 (EDT)

Reply from my talk page

I apologize for the lack of response since June/July, I took a long Amtwiki break and forgot to leave a hiatus notice.

I see you decided to not take action on the redirect pages and deletions. I need to get back into the swing of things, so I'll address this in the week. I just wanted to get back to you as soon as I saw the message, in case you are on in that time.

Enjoy the Anti-LinkRot League gallery, I'd love to get some actual wiki projects going once I get administration issues fealt with on a nat'l Amtgard level.
