1) The preview button is your friend. While it is interesting to watch people learn to use a Wiki as they submit ever-less-broken pages, I've seen it done quite a few times already. Like, a whole bunch.
2) If you want to get serious about editing the wiki, or just pick up a couple pointers, I recommend you read this fine article. It's not exactly short, but the stuff that will benefit you the most initially is near the top.
