Kneeguards, also called shinguards or mechs, are baseball catchers' shin guards. They are often used for leg protection in Amtgard because they provide protection for both the knees and shins while legged.

Mechs often have impact foam to allow falling onto the knees to be less painful. Their hard outer shell is also excellent protection against sharp rocks.

Kneeguards are sold at sporting good stores, both new and secondhand. They are sized by shin length; 14" kneeguards are usually branded as Youth, the 16" as Women's, and the 17" as Men's. They come in a variety of colors, usually solid shades, which can be matched to garb and company colors.
