Roleplay History of Bloodwyrm Haven

  • In the early days of Bloodwyrm Haven Caim was a wanderer, and had passed through the Celestial Kingdom a number of times during their annual conflicts. He had decided to settle down in the far south of the known lands of what was the Kingdom of the Wetlands, aptly named due to its perpetually damp nature. He, along with a number of acquaintances and friends, decided to build a place from which they could make their mark on the lands of Amtgardia.

The lands were largely unsettled, but for a colony to the southwest of their claimed lands. While the locals were friendly, they made it clear that they were distrustful of their neighbors warlike ways and unbridled use of magic. While small, it was rich in resources and possible recruits to the fighting reserves of the newly formed land, and so became fruitful neighbors.

  • After a short period of building and growing they received word from the Kingdom of the Burning Lands that they would be officially welcomed into the multi-Kingdom fold and recognized on the maps and trade routes of the lands. They thus attained the status of Outpost, a title given to lands that were as of yet unaffiliated with a Kingdom. This sat well with the populace for a time but they dreamed of greater things and knew that an alliance with a Kingdom would bring trade, protection, and chances for advancement to the growing land. During this time the populace decided to follow in the traditions of leadership of the Kingdoms at large and held elections to instate their first Provincial Officers.

Caim was the obvious choice to lead the growing province, and was named their Sheriff. As they needed someone to keep track of the new trade that was coming and going from the province the populace chose Dahlia, for she was the daughter of a merchant family and learned in record keeping and the workings of numbers. The training of the newly recruited defenders and guards of the province was turned over to Elys Archain, as the provincial Champion by right of victory in combat.

At the end of Bloodwyrm Havens third year, elections were held once more. With the consent and votes of the populous Caim was elected to his second term as Sheriff, Dahlia was elected to the position as Regent and Baulder was chosen as the provinces Champion. Early in the reign the waters of the sea rose at a drastic pace and brought with it all manner of creatures. The most dangerous of them was the mighty Kraken that threatened the Haven and nearly destroyed it. Only by the combined might of the Haven and its inhabitants was the monster defeated and the safety of the Haven secured, but not without drastic losses and extreme damage to the province’s keep. As the populace recovered and rebuilt, undead creatures began roaming into the boundaries of the land. They were defeated easily enough for the most part, but as later accounts would tell, they were far from gone.

  • As members of the community settled in, many new faces were seen, but two in particular caused a great deal of strife for the budding shire’s leaders. They were a couple that said they were proprietors of an inn on the road from Bloodwyrm Haven and Granite Spyre.

After the attacks had lessened, the Officers of the Haven decided that they should concentrate on fortifying the keep. They set about acquiring the needed resources and after borrowing tomes from the college in the nearby province of Granite Spyre, began rebuilding. Into the very foundation of the keep, they wove spells for protection, cancelation of evil magics, and wards that would use the nearby laylines of power to refresh the magics. Into the walls, they wove spells that would hide only those with the knowledge and permission to do so, any others would be thrust forward from the shadows. The roof was built strongly, and the spells placed there would protect it from even the harshest hurricane and hail. They built this keep to last. Though their numbers were still small, the Monarch and Regent decided to fund from their own coffers several other buildings for future use.

    • The guards were given their own building for their housing and communal area near the keep proper.
    • The mages and magical practitioners were built an enormous tower, filled with historical objects, and classes they could attend at their whim, taught by mechanical and magical constructs that would lead the novice through the beginning of their training.
    • The lords and ladies were built rooms near the keep itself, so that they could reside within the keep’s walls, either for business or pleasure, at their whim.
    • The keep itself housed several rooms, some for merriment, others for practical use, but their greatest boast was the extensive library. While not quite as extensive as those that could be found in the lands of their neighbors, Caim and Dahlia felt they would be perfect for the close knit community. As work progressed, however, there was still danger on the wind.
  • Things went smoothly for a time and it was business as usual until a body was found, surrounded by the undead, in the forest near Dahlia’s personal keep. The body was that of Finnian Lindalee, her husband. This was a most tragic day for the growing province to lose one of their own. As Dahlia mourned and surrounded herself with close friends and family, the other officers decided to take a head count to see if anyone else had met an untimely end. They soon discovered that more than just a few people were missing, not the least of which was the provincial champion Baulder Gurrk, and Dragon, a kinswoman to Dahlia.
  • While in the forests looking for the lost the search parties encountered bandits. They were dealt with swiftly and aggressively, quenching some of the pain from the loss and disappearance of so many. Strangely the two inn owners were found in the forest, saying they were looking for straw for brooms. The search party found it suspicious that they should turn up at the same time they were beset by bandits. Upon Caims pressing for answers the woman called out and more bandits appeared from the trees. A fierce battle ensued and, although the bandits fought tooth and nail, it was to no avail. The woman’s partner in crime was dead and she herself was captured and taken back to the searcher’s base to be interrogated.

During the interrogation the woman let slip where the captives were to be found but Caim lost his temper and executed her for treason on the spot. The search party then went in search of their captive comrades only to find them tied to a tree in the deep forest guarded by one of their own. Raitan the wizard had been possessed and was not in his right mind. They managed to secure the captives who soon joined in the fight and defeated the sorcerer, managing to break the spell before there was too much loss. Raitan remained among the living, though expressed extreme remorse at his actions while possessed. After testimony and discussion with the captives, as well as Raitan examining the memories he retained from his possession, Caim concluded that the undead and evil magic that was bearing down on their province could be traced back to the lands to the north, in a place called Creepy Hollow.

  • Technically, the place resided in the Haven’s parcel of lands, but their neighboring provinces, Granite Spyre, Ironwood, and Stormwall, all decided that this evil was too close to their borders to let lie, and so joined forces with the small shire, and crushed the evil necromancer that had taken lodging on those lands. Their King Termus gave thanks, and the people of Bloodwyrm Haven feasted with their allies in celebration, singing and drinking long into the night.
  • As things settled once more, and celebrated the midreign of the Warlord King Termus, a challenger rose on the kingdom fields, declaring that the people flock to his banner, or be slaughtered and burned. As the Fire Giant’s followers grew, and he began to recruit what he called the ‘pure’ to his banners, Dahlia stepped up to the provincial throne, appointing the freshly returned Baulder her Regent, and Caim her Defender and Champion. The people rejoiced, and stood with her in welcoming the Fire Giant to their province, offering compliance to his demands, and joining with his banners, ensuring his future as the rightful King of the Wetlands.

However, in his desire for power, he grew corrupt, inviting slavers and assassins into his retinue, putting the people at risk. Dahlia was kidnapped from her bed, thrown into slavery, and placed under magic to suppress her natural ability, and keep her from all family and allies. Once freed, and returned to the province, she was placed under bounty, and nearly lost her life at the hands of Caim, but for the quick reactions of her personal guard Stravos Avanti.

  • Dahlia’s brother, Sinew End’Oh, the Prince of the Celestial Kingdom, came to her lands, and brought her back from the brink of death. At the advice of her family, Dahlia placed a bounty of her own on the head of Caim, which was carried out at the hands of her allies of Draconis House.

Caim plead innocence by way of being misled, and pledged his blade once more, but only if Dahlia would turn her back on the Fire Giant. Desiring only peace for her people, and knowing that the other provinces were of a like mind, she acquiesced, and began plans to raise arms against the armies that claimed alliance to her former ally.

  • The Coronation of the Fire Giant dawned with heat that was beyond living memory. The populace of the Kingdom celebrated, though there was a palatable tension in the air. In an effort to retain the Haven and it’s warriors for his cause, the Fire Giant elevated Caim to the title Lord, though this did little to ensure their compliance. The Haven had decided, and they would see their decision to it’s end.

Shortly after the coronation though, and mere weeks before the monster was to make his way onto the lands of the province, he was overthrown by his regent. The newly crowned King Harold of Mordengaard ushered in an era of peace, bringing old rivalries to a close.

  • In this peaceful era, Dahlia stepped down from the office of Baroness, granted to them by King Harold, and turned over the governing of the lands to Thule Ironbeard.
