Lord Fjorn Emberhammer, of Buccaneer's Respite, Winter's Edge
"Do you know why I insist on hot dog lunches for all our events? Three things: they're cheap, they're filling, they're cheap. Do what you will with dinner, but you'll take the hot dog lunches from my cold, dead hands." ~Fjorn Emberhammer
"Come with me and look out into this field while I explain to you my vision for this chapter" ~Fjorn Emberhammer
"There are three hundred thousand five hundred people in the counties that make up the Tri-cities. You can't tell me I can't have just one hundred of them." ~Fjorn Emberhammer
"I haven't done enough." ~Fjorn Emberhammer
Third Person Autobiography
Fjorn began playing Amtgard in May of 2005 at the first meeting of the new Lion's Gate Chapter, in Kingsport, TN. After moving away for college, he attempted to start a chapter in Aiken, SC, Shadowmoor, but he didn't have the necessary resources to get it off the ground. After college, Fjorn would move back home to find that the two Amtgard chapters in his area had both collapsed. He would make an attempt to resurrect his home chapter, but it never gained enough traction. It would be eight years before Fjorn would pick up a boffer again.
In May of 2018, Fjorn was participating heavily with the local Star Wars: X-wing Miniatures group. Version 2.0 of the game was only months away from launch, but an old hobby was starting to take up more time at the back of his mind. An old itch was growing strong, and it insisted on being scratched. Fjorn was faced with a choice: commit to the small investment necessary to update to X-Wing 2.0 or take that same money, build a small cache of boffers, and take another stab at resurrecting the game in his area.
And build the boffers he did, enlisting the help of a close coworker at the time. After diligent planning through the winter, Buccaneer's Respite had its first meeting in April of 2019. The park started with a whimper, but he very quickly grew the park into a respectable chapter. He still plays there today.

Thoughts
On Armor
The current rules for armor in our game are, simply put, moronic. There is no justification that you can provide me to excuse our rules being stricter than the SCA's. This is a foam fighting fantasy game, not the armored combat league, so why don't our rules reflect thit?
Steel is expensive, leather is expensive. I thought it was a point of pride for our game that it costs very little to participate. If that's the case it needs to reflect in as many aspects of our game as it possibly can.
This is not to mention the armor crafting cosplay community we are alienating. We've all been to a convention where someone with amazing foam armor got excited about our game. They ask if they can use their armor in combat, we tell them no, and their shoulders fall. You just lost a player and who knows how many A&S submissions.
On Paladin/Anti-Paladin
Amtgard is moving in the right direction on this. Lifting the Knight restriction on this class was a bold move, and the right one. However, you're still keeping a lot of people from playing it, because we collectively lose more people than we keep. Most registered players will never see level 6 in a class to be able to start in on Paladin to begin with. Look, Paladin is a staple of the swords & sorcery genre, one that a lot of players are going to identify with. Give them the damn thing and be done with it. You have nothing to lose, and potential players to gain.
