n. A new player or member of the game.

Why do we need them

Newbies are sometimes reviled or maligned in older areas. This leads to a stubbornness and an unwillingness to accept change. We have to have newbies. Not only for new people but because they remind us what was like for us when we were new, and can renew our fervor for the game we grew up loving. If you aren't recruiting, then you are dying.

Rule on shedding Newb monicker

MHOG says you will be a Newbie until you have played for half as many years as him. Currently that mark is somewhere near 13 years. Most veterans consider the five year mark to be the average time period.
