Maximillian Greil of Crying Heavens, Neverwinter

Like this sword without a cloud
Like this blade pure and true
I'm a swordsman, strong of heart

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Light.

Balthazar bless my strength
Teach my hands to war
And my fingers to fight.
Grant me the power to protect those that are most important to me.

Biography

Little is known about Maximillian Greil, other then his as arrogant as the day is long. It's very clear that his drives and motives are simple. Power, and lots of it. Upon entering the shire of Crying Heavens, it took almost no time to see what he had to do. He took very little time in pledging his soul to his new master Mortis. Through Mortis he has learned much in the way of the power that lay dormant in the darkness. The more time he spends fighting for his new master, the stronger he feels himself become. For the time being this arrangement seems to serve his purposes. However, it is unclear how strong his allegiances are, or what would happen if someone more powerful then his current master was to enter the plot.

For the time being, he is Mortis devout follower. So enemies of Mortis beware, for if you happen to cross his path, you will be chopped to pieces before you even realize it happened.

His long lost brother Marcus Greil has followed him into the shire seeking to speak with him about current events, and ask why Maximillian slew his former instructor the wizard Menalag. Maximillian has yet to decide what path he will take.

The following is the personal recounts of Maximillian Greil's Travels:

Update March 01

i have helped do the unspeakable. Aiding my master in sacrificing an innocent, a defenseless child. My soul is still bound to Mortis, I had little choice in the matter. However this ritual has increased his control over the power of darkness. It serves my purposes of gaining more power. However I feels a slight sense of remorse for what I have done. Perhaps the ends did not justify the means.

Update March 08

He was chosen by the blade...
"I am called Faranuhr, The First Blade. You have been chosen to wield me in battle. I shall fight at your side, and I shall fight for whomever you call master. However, only you may chose which form I take, only your soul may command me. Should you be a master of the darkness, I shall sever the very light in twine. Should your master be the light, no evil may touch my blade. The path you take is yours alone."

Update March 15

Today I suffered his first real defeat at the hands of the church. The church of Azurea brought down an angel to aid them in battle. The quickly split apart our forces and were able to cleanse one of our soldiers from the dark taint of evil that Master Mortis cursed him with. Furthermore, they left Andronious in an extreme state of confusion. Lastly, the enemy escaped after doing what they set out to do. Light has been spread a little further into a shire.

Update April 06

Today, a great thing has happened. I was reunited with his brother, and with the aid of Grog Alestorm, my soul was freed from it's ties to Mortis, through the use of a unicorn horn. With my eyes opened and my soul free, I could now see the error of Mortis' ways. My brother and I gathered together what we could and headed out alone after the battle. I could see that Mortis simply treated everyone as pawns in his great game. I will no longer be a part of the dark wizard's scheme. I now seeks allies to fight against the darkness as my ancestors once did.

Update April 19

Andronious faced Lorrymil in the ring of honor. Though much interference was had, the battle ended in a draw. Andronious slew Lorrymil with a shurken, then Lorrymil slew Andronious. Finally Andronious seemed to be winning the third bout, he poisoned Lorrymil, and after interference by two individuals, Lorrymil slew Andronious, only to be killed by poison a few short moments later. Regardless of the outcome the end result was the same. Nothing was accomplished.

Update April 26

Monsters... everywhere. They couldn't be stopped. Old hatreds were set aside to fight the foe that stood before us now, but no matter how hard or how bravely we faught, they beat us. Greil retreated once the battle had been lost. I fled deep into the forest to escape the havoc the monsters were causing. No doubt they were attracted to the fading corruption of the land.

Update May 3

He came from the shadows... a face far to familiar to me... Ciel, my older brother has found me. I drew my sword and prepared to slay my brother. Ciel is Evil incarnate. He was responsible for poisoning the Isle of Garland, our home, with the taint of darkness. It is now a barren wasteland devoid of life thanks to him. In a fit of rage I slashed and hacked too and fro with my sword hoping to clip him. The battle went on for what seemed like hours. I finally landed a hit on his thigh. Then... just as the battle seemed to be going my way, he crushed a small orb in his hands and threw clear white powder at me. I couldn't see. All I could hear was his vile laughter as he fled.

Update May 10

Faranuhr had lent me her vision till I recovered. I could feel him behind me. Ciel was following me. I couldn't lead him back to Crying Heavens. They would be in mortal danger if I did that. So I ran across the country side leading him as far away as possible. His injury prevented him from using his superior speed to catch me. I knew it was only delaying the inevitable , but I had to get him as far away from Marcus as possible.

Update May 17

The chase continues. I don't have much time to write, I can hear him in the woods. He's behind me... watching me... why isn't he attacking. I wonder what he's up to. Ciel is tricky. He's still injured! That's why he's not attacking! He's been chasing me so he hasn't had time to recover. I'll continue running, I should be able to lose him and return home.

Update June 6

I've lost him and have returned home. Things have quieted down. I've learned much of what has happened in my absence. Mortis has united the shire and begun to face off against the kingdom. Crying Heavens has become my home in the short time that I've been here. Despite our passed differences, I will aid Mortis in his cause and together we shall defeat our enemies.

Update June 12

We've moved forward in our campaign. We celebrated our push forward with a tournament. Alessandro won, however I myself slew three enemies earning my first Order of the Warrior. Moving our encampment north was a grave mistake. One that will cost us greatly. There is a plague in this land. The plague causes those contaminated to act as if possessed by madness. We faught bravely. There were so many of them, and they seemed unstoppable. This plague granted those possessed by it super human powers. When it seemed that all was lost, an unlikely ally came to save us. Sunlight! The sun came to our aid and annihilated the plague. We were able to survive the night. I slept during the next day. I had a dream about a girl... a girl I had never met before that night. The dream seemed so vivid and strong, I didn't have the words to explain it. I felt overcome with emotion, but how... it was only a dream.

Update June 13

They came in great numbers, and their skills were unmatched by anyone he had ever seen before. The Triads came at us with alarming speed and skill. Though we managed to hold them back, we took heavy losses. Regardless, a victory was a victory. That night, we celebrated. Cloven fruit adorned every table and we sang, told stories, and nearly drowned in drink. In my mind, I was overcome by the dream I had... then... almost as if walking right out of the dream, one of the tavern wenches came to serve my meal. It was her! Shock and awe came over me. I had no idea what to do. I nervously asked if she could eat next to me during the great feast. I was awarded my order of the warrior by Mortis however I almost wished I hadn't received it so I could keep talking to her. They talked the night away, and I had to get to know her more. So I asked her to accompany me at the bardic. At the bardic, the bard Poet attempted to woo her away from me. I did the honorable thing and challenged him to a duel of words. She decided I was the victor and I spent the rest of the night telling stories by the campfire, and listening to the bards preform. In my hand, I still had the cloven fruit with only one clove in it. In hesitation I handed it to her, and she took it. The moonlight danced on the windowsill of my cabin, as we spend the night together Nefer and I.

Update June 27

The rains have been nonstop. Skirmishes here and there, however most of my time has been spent at camp, or in the tavern. My cape is damp and my garb is heavy. I wonder if the ceaseless rains of the land will ever stop. I had recently joined the House of the Hidden Blade however I had no new orders from House Lord Andronious. The waiting game continues.

Update July 5

It seemed like a dream. I was at the tavern, then all of a sudden I found myself fighting for a dark dragon. The dragon ordered me to fight through some of my former allies who were accompanied by all kinds of abominations of the sea. A sea hag entranced me and I felt myself drowning in deep water, just as I awoke to find myself in the tavern again. Oddly enough, a full day had passed and no one noticed me. What a strange series of events.
